May 19, 200818 yr Author Hey! My son has one of those only his uses 5.56mm ammo. 5.56 and .223 rem. are the same cartridge. Same cartridge the military uses.
May 20, 200818 yr 5.56 and .223 rem. are the same cartridge. Same cartridge the military uses. Not exactly. You can shoot both BUT there is a chance 5.56 will blow up in a .223 chamber. 5.56 has higher pressure, so you can shoot .223 in a 5.56 chambered rifle, but you should never shoot 5.56 in the tighter .223 chamber.
May 20, 200818 yr BTW, I'm looking to purchase an M4. Anyone know where I could get one for a good price?

The Ruger Mini-14 and some commercial AR-15s are suited for the 5.56mm. But check with your manufacturer before you try it. Otherwise, you might be replacing your barrel sooner than expected.
