Highlands Kicking Game 2008

Featured Replies

Who is poised to step in and fill the big shoes of Drew Bathiany and Zach Hurtt at Highlands this coming year?

Isn't the Hogue boy the punter? Is Kody Rosenhagen going to do the EP kicks? Wasn't there a pretty good frosh kicker last year (Etienne?) Know any interested soccer players? (lol) Dale may incur some wrath this year with "unintended" on-side kicks! (lol)

The freshman kicker last year was Adam Weinel. He kicked a 29 yard field goal against Dixie, which had enough leg for at least 5 more yards. Plenty of extra points were blocked, but that was more a function of blocking (or not blocking) than it was him missing. Heard he has been working hard through the off-season, so we'll see what that leads to. This is the first time in a few years that kicking is not being mentioned as a strength, so it will be interesting to see who asserts himself in the role.

Dale only elected for the PAT about 50% of the time last year... heck, he may not even go for the PAT this year! Regarding field goals, don't think it will be a necessity. The birds will be scoring often... :thumb:

Hope you are correct with that one!:thumb:

Aside from the points on PAT or FG, the obvious advantage in field position due to touch backs was incredible. The game vs. Trotwood Madison stands out, as Bathiany was incredible in putting every kickoff into their end zone, with the exception of the last one, which was designed as a squibber. When they kicked-off, our receivers were standing at about the 20 yard line, and came forward to catch the ball, giving us a 15 yard or so advantage on starting field position.

Who knows, we may end with a scenario where one player does the kick off (distance, not necessarily accuracy) while another handles PATs and FGs (accuracy, not necessarily distance).

I saw a Ray Guy Kicking Academy Trailer pulling out of the school lot the other day. Wow they are calling in the big guns to get the kicking game ready. Ray Guy was the man for the RAIDA'z back in the 70's and 80's.

You know Dale, he won't leave a rock unturned. He'll bring in the best if that's what it takes to make his kid's better.
