Boone County 15 St. Henry 14

Featured Replies

Boone County 15 St. Henry 14 in what had to be one of the ugliest baseball games that I have seen in a long, long time. Boone County must have walked in at least 5 or 6 runs.

The good:

#12 the second baseman for St. Henry. While this young man is small in size, he plays like he is nine feet tall. Was impressed with his glove, (except for the first ball hit to him) bat and his ability to run the basses.

Cory Farris, the BC catcher and UK signee, proved why he is one of the best in NKy. With Boone down by three runs and with two runner on, and two out in the top of the seventh, on the very first offering from the St. Henry pitcher, Farris takes him deep to tie the game.

The Boone County third baseman makes two good plays to keep the agony of defeat from smacking the Rebels in the face, in the bottom of the seventh after taking the lead in the top of the same inning.

The St. Henry RF made two outstanding plays in the field.

The Bad:

Boone County pitchers. If today was an example of what Boone has on the mound (this was I was told a district seeding game) then Boone is in deep, deep trouble.

Why did the St. Henry coaches pitch to Farris with two out and up three. I realize that Reed was up next, but no way, no how do I allow Farris to beat me.

Was going to stay and watch the next game, but....after sitting through this game.....no way.....

Where ya been old guy?

So the Home Run count is one for Maile and one for Farris?

Looks like we got a game scheduled with the CCH boys at Ryle Wednesday night....are you going to be there?

Yep tied 1/1! While Farris HR was much more important in Boone victory over St. Henry (my guess around 320 or less) than was Maile blast against Dixie (my guess around 345 or more), the race for who is the better catcher, isn't even close, in Maile favor. Of course, both are the best players in NKy, with Elliott and Nichols rounding out the next top two.

Sort a of been on a mandatory/required vacation.

If you promise to cook up some Raider Burgers, and have the thermostat turned up to at least 65 degrees for the game, I will be there! :thumb::D

Yes, I will be at the game, see you there!

Mandatory / required vacation ? That sounds like it could involve a bail bondsmen. LOL

Good to have ya back....look forward to seeing you Wednesday. Weather is supposed to be sunny, don't know about the food arrangements this year though. It would be hard to compete with Mary, anyway.

NKY's "best team" losses again. UKfan14, do you have any input on this game, your favorite team seems to be struggling this year.

Agree this was a very ugly game. St Henry's coach was a MLB pitcher. That is why I think they pitched to Farris. Don't agree with the call but shows confidence in a young pitcher that may pay off later in the season.

This is why lots of folks question Walt's coaching ability.

Right Speedey ?

I know Walt (and I admire him very, very much as a baseball manager) however this was a district seeding game, and this game could mean the difference between playing Ryle or Conner in the first round. If this was just a regular season game, I could understand the decision, but in a district seeding game, well.......

BTW, I have a hard time understanding playing a such an important game, so early in the season. Just doesn't make sense to me at least, especially since (from what I understand) they play only one game against each team in the district to seed. Couldn't this game be played later in the season?

What would be the difference if Reed wins the game or Farris wins it. So, diamond dandy, his coaching ability shouldn't be in question as he might just have been getting the kids experience and confidence for later in the season. And for you old guy, it's pretty apparant that playing Ryle or Conner would not be a big difference given how well Conner is playing

Let's see......

Down 2 runs with a man on and Farris at the plate and Reid on deck.

Farris hits for power, Reid, a slap hitter....let me think about this a while.

And did he accomplish that?

OK......I walk Farris and pitch to Reid.

I agree to an extent... Farris can be pitched too... he is very vulnerable to outside pitches espesically off speed and that showed early in the game when he flew out twice... Now in a big situation i agree walk him to get to Reid because if you make a mistake pitch (not on the outside) Farris can make it hurt like he did.

I agree, that is the one chink in Cory's armour. He has always tried to pull the outside pitch, so we pitched him outside and he never hurt us. Usually grounded to second. If he learns to go with the pitch on the outside corner his average will go up as he will hit more balls up the middle or threw a hole on the left side.

Exactly what i was thinking... So if St Henry was to pitch him outside I don't think we would be having this debate... It could have been a mistake pitch but either way anything on the inner half is dangerous!
