Ohio vs. Kentucky

Featured Replies

Is Kentucky wrestling that bad or is it just me? How come more teams don't come and wrestle in Ohio, just what I thought. Also there are no top teams in the nation in Kentucky. Please give your thoughts, all welcome.

Several teams do go to Ohio to wrestle. I am pretty sure most of the Northern KY schools do. Ky is getting better, but it will be awhile before we see a KY team ranked in the Nation. Ky has just had a middle school association for wrestling about 10 years or less and youth programs are starting to grow. This is a basketball state and I have known kids who would sit on the end of the bench than start for the wrestling team.

I wrestled at Ashland and I went to several tournaments in Ohio back when I wrestled... but I do agree that KY wrestling is far from top notch and it is still in its growing stages and there just isn't enough interest for the sport.... most people either play basketball or do nothing at all... I really wish there was more interest for the sport.

Wrestling in Kentucky is really taking off. The middle school state association has grown to the point where we may have to introduce district tournaments prior to Regional tournaments. Wrestling has really improved as of late in the state and will continue to do so. One thing that has really improved is the quality of instruction available to the young men and women. The hardest thing for wrestling programs to find in th state are qualified coaches especially at the beginning levels.

I know having 2 colleges in Ky that have wrestling will help getting new coaches out there.

Thank you. I thought there was only one college in KY with a wrestling team.

Campbellsville is in their 3rd or 4th season. I believe the Murton brothers are there.

kentucky is one of the top 20 wrestling states in the nation if u ask me but ohio has always been one of the top 5 wrestling states. if u put the best wrestlers from kentucky on a team to dual a team of ohios best wrestlers ohio would destroy kentucky but its not that kentucky is so weak its just that ohio is so strong

I think top 20 is stretching it with only about 80 teams in the state. I can easily name 20 states that produce more college wrestlers than we do. Also if you look in the wrestling publications, we rarely have a kid in the top 25 and when we do he is near the bottom, but I do think Kentucky is getting better.

I used to wrestle for New Cath years ago, we used to wrestle some of the Ohio teams. It really made us better.

Campbell Co. goes to Ohio on a regular basis. They used to go to Indiana at one time . I do not know if they still go there or not.
