Really miss the days of Clyde Barbour and The Continental Inn. Just wondering how the Mason County fans feel about this tourney championship as compared to the tourney runs in the past. Felt like this year just had an expected feel to it as compared to the runs in the 80's and the excitement that Lofton,Grutza,Wes Jones and Litzinger generated several years back. As someone that missed hardly any of Lofton's home games and have said before that this team was really boring(really good), but boring. How was the after victory celebrations at Hyatt and Radisson? Congrats to the Royals and now hope things will be on more of an even playing field in the 10th next season.

"Thrilling" and not state champs?

"Exciting" and not state champs?

Freeloading at one of Clyde's bashes and not winning the title?

Funny that someone should start a thread on this. I have only watched these kids the last two years, so I can only imagine how people feel that have watched these kids through middle school, but anyhoo.

 

After that Clark Co loss last year, I circled March 08 on the calendar and figured that if this group stayed healthy and stayed together, there was no excuse for them not winning state this year.

 

So all year I was thoroughly enjoying the ride, but as March kept getting closer, I knew that there were only 2 endings for this story to have. I would have been proud of them regardless, but really wanted the team and the seniors to go out on a big time high note.

 

When going to Rupp on Saturday for the semifinals and finals, my stomach was in knots. I left the house at 8am and was in Lexington all day for the semifinals and finals, I didn't eat ANYTHING all day. I was so overwhelmed with nerves, I figured I would end up getting sick.

 

When the pregame started, I literally was in tears, cause this was it. All the time we have spent following this team and it was coming to end. So when the game finally did end, it was a sense of relief more than anything else. I stated on another thread that this will not sink in with me for a long, long time. I tend to take things way too seriously to begin with, but watching these kids and how hard they have worked to get to this point and everything that went into this season, just hard to put into words.

 

As MCPapa said, you can never be bored or blah about being a TRUE state champion. I would agree that it was a little bit more difficult for me to enjoy this cause this is what SHOULD have happened, this team SHOULD have and DID win state.
