Former Raceland assistant coach Gerad Parker is heading to the University of Tennessee Martin to coach running backs. Gerad played high school ball at Lawrence County and then spent his college years playing WR for the University of Kentucky. After college he came to Raceland where he was a the WR and DB coach. I talked with Gerad the other day and he has accepted the job offer from UT Martin and will be starting immediately. He did an outstanding job at Raceland and was a huge part of their district championship team in 2006. This should be a great starting point for him to begin his college coaching career. UT Martin is a D-1 school that plays in the Sun Belt Conference. Best of luck to Gerad and his wife Candy (who can play a little ball also!) and congratulations!

Great news. UT Martin just got a quality individual and an excellent football coach. As Ramcat mentioned ,Gerad did an outstanding job while at Raceland.

One thing that is guaranteed, Gerad will give everything he has to make UT Martin a contender.No other coach in the conference will out work him.

Unless UT-Martin has left the OVC, I don't think they are a part of the Sun Belt. I could be wrong. Unless you are thinking of Middle Tenn.? Who knows.

I talked to him the other night. He is picking up some great experience going to UT Martin. They are in the OVC. They also play South Florida and Auburn this year. I coached Gerad the first year he ever played and we have become very close friends over the years. The sky is the limit for him in the coaching profession. Within the past month he has gone to Tenn and Jason Michael his QB has gone to UofTenn to coach. Not bad for a couple of Lawrence Co boys.

On a side note I had googled Gerad to see if they had reported the news down there and the National High School site came up. Gerad HAS THE SECOND MOST RECEIVING YARDS IN THE HISTORY OF HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL IN AMERICA!!!!

Great news for Gerad. He is a great coach and many people will hear about him before his is done. I venture to say that he will be a big coaching name someday. He and his wife are great people and I am glad to have had the opportunity to get to know them.

I'd say there isn't a more popular couple that were high school sport stars in Eastern KY and very possibly all of KY. Kandi Brown Parker was one heck of a basketball player. As good of a basketball player Gerad was Kandi would play circles around him:)

Yea, and I heard her tell him just that, several times, at the youth basketball league games.:lol:

Congrats to Coach Parker. I had a chance to meet him one time seemed like a very good young man. I also coached against him when he was a player and he was quite a athlete. Congrats again to him and his family.
