Fear 'Les' 13th Regional Ratings Jan. 31 - Feb. 7

Featured Replies

Girls Top 5

1. Clay County (15-5, 4-1)

What’s the scoop: The Lady Tigers are back at the top spot after clinging to the No. 2 rating last week.

Surprise, surprise: The Lady Tigers followed their loss to Whitley County with a dominating 78-26 win against Magoffin County.

What’s ahead: Clay County has a nice test on the road Friday against Jackson County before taking a week off.

2. South Laurel (14-7, 8-3)

What’s the scoop: This sure doesn’t look like the same team that started the season with a 1-4 record.

Konnie Snyder’s Lady Cardinals are looking pretty solid right now.

Surprise, surprise: South Laurel turned in a solid effort despite seeing Lauren Wombles limited to only 12 points during the Lady Cardinals’ 10-point win against Whitley County last week.

What’s ahead: South Laurel will get a chance to force a first place tie with Whitley County in the chase for the 50th District’s top seed with a win against Williamsburg today.

The Lady Cardinals will be back in action Saturday at home against North Laurel.

3. Whitley County (16-5, 9-2)

What’s the scoop: The Lady Colonels dropped from the No. 1 slot after losing to South Laurel this past week.

Surprise, surprise: Whitley County recovered nicely with a big win over McCreary Central. Holly Jones had a fantastic game and knocked down seven 3-pointers in the first half.

What’s ahead: Whitley County will be back in action Feb. 5 on the road against Knox Central.

4. Middlesboro (19-1, 15-1)

What’s the scoop: Middlesboro could easily be rated in either the No. 1, 2, or 3 spots, but for right now, I still remember the Lady Yellow Jackets getting blitzed by Corbin.

Surprise, surprise: Middlesboro has won seven games in a row and captured the 13th Region All ‘A’ Classic title in the process.

What’s ahead: The Lady Yellow Jackets was scheduled to play Danville Wednesday in the first round of the All ‘A’ Classic State Tournament.

5. Jackson County (14-5, 6-2)

What’s the scoop: Jackson County continues to be one of the darkhorses in the run for the 13th Region championship.

Surprise, surprise: Amber Whitehead and Kourtney Tyra continues to be a solid duo for the Lady Generals, who came from behind to beat Corbin Monday.

What’s ahead: Jackson County will host Clay County Friday before hosting another game Tuesday against Pulaski County.

The Best of the Rest

No. 6 North Laurel (9-9, 2-4)

What’s the scoop: North Laurel picked up a solid win against Corbin last week.

No. 7 Corbin (10-10, 5-7)

What’s the scoop: The Lady Redhounds just can’t get any momentum going.

No. 8 Williamsburg (11-6, 8-5)

What’s the scoop: The Lady Yellow Jackets are winners of three straight.

No. 9 Harlan (10-9, 10-5)

What’s the scoop: The Lady Green Dragons are playing pretty solid right now.

No. 10. Lynn Camp (9-7, 6-7)

What’s the scoop: Richard Jones’ squad pulled off an upset over last week’s No. 8 team (Barbourville) and followed that with a win on the road against Jellico, Tenn.

This is Lynn Camp’s first appearance in the Fear ‘Les’ 13th Region Ratings.

They'll be fine.

corbin seems to have some of the best individual talent. why such an average record

Their depth and size do not match teams such as Clay, South or Whitley Co. They will have to play exceptionally well to beat any of these teams.

Tiebreaker is a coin flip ... will be done next week. As for Parsons going to Harlan, I hope not.

I can't find it on there.

It's supposed to have been at Knox Central for several years. I don't understand why it's a question. The other gyms are too small.

HDE,

I'll PM you the story.

I really think the 13th is alot closer than it has been any recent years, I still think Clay is the best team, with Mboro right on their heels. The loss the Whitley Co, I think showed the Lady Tigers that they can be beat by a 13th region team. But no one can forget South right now, they seem to be playing some really nice ball.

I think since we are getting to the end of the season . I am still saying Mikkah Rogers is the best player in the Region.

Wombles fine player, but is not putting up the numbers that mikkah is putting up in scoring, rebounding, steals, and assists.

Tyra Girl great player but, next year will be her time to shine.

Mikkah is getting looks from many schools: WKU, EKU, Coastal Carolina, Davidson, IUPUI, and Georgetown plus many others.

I have heard that Cumberland College isn't even looking at her. I wonder why? Cumberland has a fine team, but seriously they seem to only recruit girls from South Laurel.

I hear though that she is a heavy lean to Coastal Carolina.

Let's stick with the ratings. Both Mikkah and Lauren are great kids that come from good families. Start another thread for I'd comments.

I'd take both kids they great.

why LES? Last I checked this is a 13th region Thread. Your Rankings are pretty accurate, I would put SL ahead of Clay County, but you know best. I know you can't comment I was really wondering about the rest of Bluegrasspreps, not the Corbin Times Tribune.

We know where your heart is....:fight: haha jk on the last Comment

Well Hound82 I will just tell you why Wombles is not scoring as much as Rogers. Coach Snyder does not leave her in when SL is blowing out a team or even ahead by more than 15. Coach Snyder is not trying to make her numbers look good aganist very weak teams. She has never left a player in just to make their numbers look good. If she has left Wombles in several of the games that South has played Wombles could have had 30 points a game.

It's bad enough to beat a team to death but to leave your best player in just to make her numbers look good is bad sportsmanship in my book. South Laurel get there younger player in when there is a blow out.

Corbin is not the only team that keeps their best player in when there is a blow out or playing an team that is not that good. If South left Wombles in she would be the leading scorer in the region and probally one of the top in the state.

LES,is it possible to find out how many minutes that Rogers and Wombles averages a game and maybe Hounds82 will see why Rogers has more ppg.

I am not taking anything away from Rogers because she is a great player and seems like a good kid. I do know that Rogers was retained and is a 19 year old senior, while Wombles was skipped a grade and just recently turned 17.I can't imagine just how tough Wombles could be if she was not skipped

and was retained.Just imagine her having 2 more years to play high school ball.

I know that Wombles has had many college offers in basketball, softball and volleyball but she has decided to stay close to home to be close to her family and church.

I think we saw in both meeting between Corbin and South Laurel that both of the girls are great players but I believe that Wombles showed why she is ranked #1 in Les Dixons rankings.

I also want to congratulate Lauren for being nominated for a McDonalds All-American. Keep up the good work Lauren you are always a class act.

Corbin doesn't blow out any team. I dont know what Corbin team you are watching, but Corbin Girls basketball is down this year. Coach Parsons never leaves mikkah in when they play a "rare" team they are blowing out. Mikkah has to play every second of the close games due to the lack of depth Corbin has compared to SL. Im not taking anything away from LW, its just that Mikkah has played better this season.

MD All-American nominations - Anyone can get put on the list to be selected. It is not hard to put someone on that list. Getting put on the team is another story. I congrats to Lauren for getting nominated.

4SLcards...It seems you have taken a shot at Coach Parsons for leaving starters in...Name one time that she has done that? I attend every game and Coach Parsons never leaves starters in they are up on a team.

You need to get your facts straight before you post. Mikkah is 18 and she has never been held back.

Good luck on the rest of the season. I would rather SL win than Whitley (no offense), and I hope a 50th district team wins region.

So, which team does people think will win the region?

For some reason I really do feel that Whitley or South Laurel will win this region.

My top 10:

1: SL

2: Whitley

3: Clay

4: M-Boro

5: NL

6: Jackson

7: Corbin

8: BUrg

9: Lynn Camp

10: Harlan

I can't wait for the 50th District Tournament. I smell an upset brewing.
