Clay County Mr Les, Clay County.

I'm not taking any shots at Coach Parsons she is a very good Coach.I get my info from the paper and I have friends in Corbin.

 

I was told by a very realiable source that she and her twin brother where retained in 5th grade. I could have been informed wrong.

 

I don't think just anyone gets the McDonalds All-American nomination. I looked online and there where only 30 girls from Ky.

 

I think we both can agree that if Rogers and Wombles weren't from Eastern Ky they would get alot more attention.

 

 

Les,to answer your question I believe that there are several teams that can win the region on any given night. Of course I would like to see South win.

Yeah, I wouldnt want to see Lauren or Mikkah play for any other team though. I like good ol Mountain Basketball.

 

Mikkah and Devin (her twin) have never been held back. They both are 18.

 

Has South and CLay played this year, or do they play?

I think Clay and South play the 18th at South...

 

I think the Region is very close right now, I still think Clay is the top team with Mboro, South, and Whitley on their heels. Clay has a great team but they would have been so much better if Stephanie Jackson had came back for her senior season

I agree that Clay would be even tougher with Stephanie playing. It's a shame that she quit.

 

I guess I was misinformed but, I have always heard that. I believe that they could make an impact on any team in the state.

 

South will play Clay and E-town at South,then they play the Rock at home.

If Lauren and Mikkah played on the same team...it would be all over.

 

I have always loved mountain basketball. The heart, sweat, blood, and tears go into every single game. The 13th region tournament is something special. The way these players pour every single ounce of energy and heart into a game is something magical. Most of the players in the mountains get overlooked because they play for a team in Southeastern Kentucky. I feel this years boys and girls region tournaments will be one of the best tournaments this state has seen in a long long time.

I agree this years 13th region tournment should be a Great one.

 

Clay Co has some really tough games coming up, Breathitt Co, Lex Cath, Pike Central, South Laurel, Corbin, and Mboro. So the lady Tigers will be tested in the next couple weeks.

I call Middlesboro to win the region. They are a young yet veteran group of girls that will press your butt all night long. Their only loss coming to a Corbin team that they had beat previously by double digits. Every team is entitled to a bad game. Coach Elgie Green will have these girls cutting down the nets at the end of the region tournament.

why LES? Last I checked this is a 13th region Thread. Your Rankings are pretty accurate, I would put SL ahead of Clay County, but you know best. I know you can't comment I was really wondering about the rest of Bluegrasspreps, not the Corbin Times Tribune.

I have to comment on this Rogers/Wombles debate. Sorry Les...

 

I have seen both players play many times this year (including head to head). I think Rogers is one of the best players I have seen in many years. She does it all. She rebounds, she shoots, she handles the ball, and she plays incredible defense.

 

With that said I have to say that Wombles is an even better all-around player than Rogers. Lauren scores inside and out, she handles the ball, plays great defense, and it one of the most fundamentally sound players I have seen. Lauren is IMO the best female athlete in the state of Kentucky this year.

 

BTW - The ratings are right on the money as far as I can tell. Great Job Les. You and the Times-Tribune rock!!!

Both girls are great ball players, no doubt about it. They would be unstopable if they played for the same team. Rogers reminds me alot of Gilbert who played for Clay 2 seasons ago, although I think Gilbert is the better athlete out of those 2.

 

Also how many seniors does Corbin, South, and Middlesboro have starting. I know that Whitley has several and Clay starts 2 seniors but I was just curious about the other top teams.

Mikkah Rogers is one of the best players I have seen in recent memory on the girls side of the ball. She is a good scorer, rebounder, and plays great defense. She is the absolute feature of her team and does log quite a few minutes which does add to her statistical averages.

 

Lauren Wombles is a great player. I think she has the edge on Rogers as a player (taking absolutely nothing away from Mikkah). Lauren also is a scorer, rebounder, and plays great defense. Lauren makes fewer turnovers than Mikkah and that is one big difference in the two. Lauren is also not used the way that many people feel she should be. She could definately score 25 points a game and grab 10 boards a game if she were asked to do so. SL has a deeper team than Corbin. They have more options and share the ball quite a bit more.

I would be bored if I agreed on everything people said.

 

I would agree that lauren is a better rebounder than mikkah...Mikkah averages less than 2 turnovers a game. If LW has less than that so be it. Mikkah and LW are the 2 best players in the region and it will be a shame not to see them play for the 2 schools next year.

 

Gilbert girl is not a better athelete than LW or Mikkah. There is a difference to being an athelete and a good shooter.

 

It's sad that the season is almost over though.

 

Update on Mikkah's college choice....She really wants to go to coastal carolina. I hear Davidson is looking really hard at her at the moment.
