I am in the middle of the an organization of the SBC telling a local church what it can and cannot do, so you are dead wrong on the autonomy of the local church. It is quickly dissipating. Missionaries now have to sign a document stating that they adhere to BFM of 2000 as amended on 2004 The churches do not ignore the scripture, they read it in its historical context, just like the non-eating of pork is taken in its historical context. First of all that was an action of the local Baptist Association. It is not a "farm club" for the SBC" (credit for this phrase is from Virginia Baptists who said the very thing about their state body to the SBC). Each local association is autonomous and can decide who they choose to fellowship and cooperate with for whatever reason. Is the notion of church autonomy and congregational polity slipping away. Yes and no. Churches that seek to believe that women can be called by God are being "disfellowshiped" from some larger bodies (i.e. local associations, SBC, whoever) but they are free to practice their polity in the local congregation in which they reside and minister.
