Athlete7 Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 I was just wondering what you guys thought about this? I see Breathitt getting handled by LCA at Breathitt and Perry goes to Dunbar and gets destroyed. Breathitt and Perry are the 2 powers of the 14th. Is there a weaker region in the state of Kentucky?
Master of the Hardwood Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 Would have to agree the 14th is the weakest I have seen in a long time. When our 2 best teams can't win a game out of the region that is pitiful. Would have to rate our region way at the bottom in the state. How I would rate our region teams: 1.Breathitt 2.Perry County No one else is close to these 2 teams. 3.Knott County 4.Powell 5.Leslie 6.Hazard 7.Estill 8.Letcher 9.Owsley 10.Everyone else

LCA and Dunbar would destroy most teams in the state.

If you are basing your assessment on losses to LCA and Dunbar then there are a lot of week regions in the state.
Master of the Hardwood Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 Not just on those 2 teams. Perry has lost to North Laurel, Madison Central and Barren County out of region and went 0-3 in Daytona Beach, where they usually dominate. Breathitt has played mostly in region games but has ventured out and played and lost to Covington Holy Cross, LCA, and Clay County. They have beaten middle of 12th region team Monticello and bottom of the 11th region team Berea. Not knocking either of these teams because they still are the best in this region, we were just making the comment that this region is down from years past. Just never have seen the play so bad in this region. Usually has 4 or 5 teams that can play and this year it is just 2 and they aren't playing very good.
callmeclutch Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 You guys are forgetting Knott Central. They are A LOT better than you all think. They had a off night at Breathitt and have lost a couple of close games. These girls are determined to send Megan out with a bang. And they are going to do this by beating Breathitt and Perry. Do not over look the underdogs. This is possibly the worst and the first losing team Perry Central has ever had.
Athlete7 Posted January 9, 2008 Author Posted January 9, 2008 Knott will never beat PCC or Breathitt in the Regional Tournament. Knott just isnt tournament tough. Whoever does win the region will be making a long trip to Bowling Green for one game.
callmeclutch Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 At the rate Perry is going they are not going to be "tournament tough" either. Perry isn't going to be able to beat Breathitt either. This year's PCC team could possibly be the worst if not the worst team to ever wear a PCC uniform. This could also be the first time since the school opened that they have a losing record. Payback sucks doesn't it.
pallex32 Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Breathitt played LCA close until LCA started to press. Breathitt couldnt break the press and most of the points LCA scored were cheap points. When Breathitt learns how to beat the press they will compete with schools such as LCA. Breathitt was winning at half time by 3 or 5 I want to say. When Breathitt learns, they will win a game or two over at bowling green.

This late in the season they should be able to break a press, of any kind. i feel that there is reason to believe PCC or Breathitt may not be in bowling geean. I'll speculate my reasons later. I'm willing to bet i'm not far off.
Master of the Hardwood Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 The only other teams that has a very slight possibility of beating them (Breathitt,PCC) is Knott or Leslie, which I don't see happening. Mosely for Knott is a great player, but she has to pack to much on her shoulders for Knott to beat good teams, she just can't do it all and she has no help. I hate that for her because she is such a good kid, but don't think they can take care of the Lady Cats or Lady Dores. And as for Leslie, I think they are just way too young right now to do anything in the tourney, but look for them to be competing for the regional title soon. HEY CLUTCH, And if this is the worst team PCC has ever had, what does that say about the rest of the region right now, because the only team that can beat them is Breathitt. Have you looked at the teams they have lost too? Pretty sure they have played some pretty good competition.
Athlete7 Posted January 10, 2008 Author Posted January 10, 2008 I never have been able to figure out why PCC would never venture 40 miles down the road to play Clay County. Breathitt played Clay and got beat 15. Clay is a pretty solid squad. I think the size of Clay would give PCC a lot of trouble.
STRIKE3 Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 In each Region, there are some good teams and some, who will certainly struggle. If you compare Regions and regular season match-ups, there will always be disparity but not a reflection of the teams, just some programs are consistently good. To answer the original question, teams in the 14th Region may venture outside and compete/not compete but either way, it will only make them better, if coaches/players commit to working together and use those games, as a measuring point of current progress.

Have you looked at the teams they have lost too? Pretty sure they have played some pretty good competition. Breathitt is not the only team that can beat them. Sure no one else has beaten them but they are capable of being beat. They have lost to Breathitt in the region. The only other games that have even been remotely close have been the Flordia games the rest has been blowouts which proves my point as to the are not what they "usually" are. It is about time that they get what they deserve. Every other team has always had to rebuild, and Perry always simply reloaded. This time there is no reloading. As for the whole Mosley deal. The other girls on the team have stepped it up the last couple of games. King and K. Thomas have started playing well. Both scoring double digits the last 2 games. Mosley has help, some people are just to blind to see it.
