January 4, 200818 yr Bush the Elder finished third in 1988; he won the Republican caucuses in 1980. Among Democrats, Tom Harkin won Iowa in 1992 and Dick Gephardt won in 1988. Edmund Muskie won it in 1972. I'm not impressed. I don't think the Iowa caucuses reflect anything, given problems with the format. Two different formats. Which is the problem? The Republicans casting one vote in secret ballot or the Democrats bartering for votes.

The format which disenfranchises people of either party who have to work, or can't find a babysitter, or are sick, or are deployed on a military assignment. Anyone who can't get to their local caucus is just left out. It's not a format that reflects the mainstream of either party. The Iowa caucuses mean very little to me for that reason.

Well Hillary should have one then. She was offering free childcare. They rented out over 600 SUV's to provide transportation. Imagine if a Republican candidate offered free childcare and transportation. They would be accused of trying to buy their votes.

January 4, 200818 yr Obviously, I believe many still feel she may project as the nominee, but this may be a shot across the bow. No longer invincible? No longer a shoo-in? She has had some recent gaffes, particularly with her statements about Pakistan... Many of you have been following this more closely, overall what does it mean. Obviously, it allows Edwards to keep a pulse, and a definite boost for Obama. I read that Edwards was basically living in Iowa and planning on using a win there to build momentum. Read that he needed a win in Iowa or at least a close second to stay in the race and he got neither. Maybe he'll steal another big state but I don't see him winning at this point. He will be the man I'm voting for though.

Read that he needed a win in Iowa or at least a close second to stay in the race and he got neither. Maybe he'll steal another big state but I don't see him winning at this point. He will be the man I'm voting for though. He had a good spin in the interview that I saw. 70% of the voters voted for a change from the status quo represented by Hilary. Now it is a choice between him and Barak and there are stark differences between the two.

Think she delivered Barak and Edwards' voters? Especially since a large turnout was considered to be a negative for her and turned out to be true.

January 5, 200818 yr BTW, even though Clinton finished in third, she won one more delegate from Iowa than the second place Edwards last night. So in actuallity, she finished 2nd in the numbers that matter. Obama 16 delegates Clinton 15 delegates Edwards 14 delegates 12 Super delegates in Iowa still have to be distributed. Oh yeah, I hate the Caucus system.
