Who was coaching Coach Guffy's team...

:scared:

Coach Deaton was blessed with a young team, that was left over from Guffy's. Bakers track record speaks for itself.

What has Baker done? All Coach Baker is doing, is Coaching Coach Deaton team.

Not to take anything away from Mike Deaton but he was only there one year....he may have given them some toughness....heck they had to be tough to last under him, but Baker has brought them together and has them believing in themselves individually and as a team. No easy task for a young team that at the high school level had not tasted much success. Make no mistake about, this is Chris Bakers team, and he has got them playing well, he has the respect of the administration, the parents and the team.

This isn't college hoops. Deaton didn't recruit this boys lol. 11 or more of them are Freshman or sophomores. Baker has this team on track to higher ground IMO.

I echo that sentiment. Coach Baker seems to have taken some positive approaches and added a little tough love and the kids seem to be responding well to him. It would not surprise me to see Whitley win the tournament over at McCreary. Of course beating the Raiders on their home floor will be a big challenge, but the Colonels have my respect.

Is Whitley playing at McCreary or Wayne Co.? I thought I read somewhere they were at Wayne for their tourament.

They are playing in the Monticello Bank Classic at Wayne Co. Colonels won their first game by about 20 over Casey CO and then got beat 28 by a strong Warren Central squad.

The difference in Deaton's coaching and Baker's coaching is that Coach Baker has the kids enjoying the game. They are getting a pat on the back when they do a good job and he is challenging them to win. They are hungry for a winning season. The kids respect him because he respects them. They want to win for him and they are playing hard. He has all the parents involved and he lets them know they are appreciated. This team is made up of 11 freshmen and sophmores, 3 juniors and 1 senior. Any one of these kids can come off the bench and make a difference in a game. They will be tough the next few years. Great job Coach Baker!!
