CovCath 69 LaFayette 65 OT

CovCath escapes with a win in Park Hills.

CovCath played flat most of the game and it nearly cost them. Credit goes to the Generals and their 1-2-2 zone. CovCath didn't attack the basket, settling for long threes that weren't falling. CovCath couldn't get into their full court press which really seemed to bother the Generals at times.

#21 for LaFayette hurt CovCath with his drives to the basket. CovCath kept coming out 15 feet to pick him up when it was obvious he wanted to drive. More often than not he finished, but when he didn't the defense had rotated to help, leaving the Generals back side stick backs.

CovCath if not for a walk by a General with just three seconds left under the CovCath basketball, loses this game in regulation. As Colonel-fan stated CovCath came out as flat as can be in the first half and the Generals were hungry for a win. Maile in his best cool hand Luke mode, made the shot of the game with just tenths of a second left on the clock cans a three point basket to tie the game to send the game to overtime. Bondick makes four free throw to seal the victory for CovCath in OT...... Good win by CovCath against a team that is much, much, much better than there 0-6 record......

BTW this was the first game that the Crazies disappointed me this season. Yes school is out, and the Generals were 0-5, but the Crazies were as flat as the Colonles on the floor. Crazies you weren't the sixth man on the floor tonight at all......

This score really surprises me. CovCath has to be a little worried about their play lately.

I definitely would be worried........

they have one loss and that was to #1 Mason County. Grant it they could have played better, but I do not think they have anything to worry about

I'd hate to see the stats for the Colonels' 1st half shooting. They were 1 - for 10+ from 3 it seemed, and were giving up way too many offensive rebounds. Fortunately for CCH, Lafayette missed almost as many put back opportunities it seemed.

A great ending. Both teams battled.

And I agree TheOldGuy, a disappointing atmosphere. Since when does a student section sit down? :D

Covington Catholic pulls out win in OT

BOYS' BASKETBALL

Covington Catholic senior guard Chris Bondick scored 19 points, including four clutch free throws in overtime, to seal a 69-65 win over Lexington Lafayette for the host Colonels on Friday.

Junior Luke Maile finished with a double-double, 11 points and 12 rebounds, and made the game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer to force overtime. The Colonels forced 20 turnovers in the win.

Look for Coach Listerman to have them in this week-end doing "suicides".

Most probably, instead of the suicide drill for the Crazies, he will punish

the "Senior Crazies" where it hurts them even more......by giving them....

MORE HOMEWORK!!!!!

Colonels rally past Lafayette

Post staff report

Covington Catholic rallied from a five-point deficit with 22 seconds left in regulation to force overtime then received six of senior guard Chris Bondick's team-high 19 points in the extra period to hold off winless former state champion Lexington Lafayette 69-65 Friday night at CovCath.

Bondick's 3-pointer with 14 seconds left in the fourth quarter pulled CovCath to within two points. After a timeout, the Colonels fouled Derek Linton and put him at the free-throw line, where he made the second of two shots.

CovCath's J.D. Schmerge (9 points) missed a trey and Lafayette grabbed the defensive rebound under pressure but was whistled for traveling, turning the ball over to the Colonels. Luke Maile received the inbound pass and hit a trey as time expired, forcing overtime. Maile had a double-double with 12 points and a team-high 12 rebounds

Had CCH pressured Lafayette all game, I think the Colonels would have won in regulation. They shot poorly, but the Generals were not able to solve the press.

Good win for CC even though they didn't play well.
