Nope, Corbin ................... then South ........ then Whitley ............. then the Burg.

Dec. 25

It was a serious defensive effort from the Colonels, St. John did not get a basket till under a minute left in the game. He got in foul trouble off the bat and had to sit. Jones and Gilbert carried the load for the Cardinals. If Whitley could have just hit their layups it may have turned out differently. Whitley had trouble scoring, South had trouble scoring in the half court. They turned Whitley over and got several buckets in transition early when they were trailing to get into the lead.

South's press is still pretty effective but not near what it was last year. Whitley although still young (last part of the game they had 2 FR, 2 SO, and 1 JR on the floor) gave a great effort and has improved tremendously.

It was a competitive game and although the Colonels lost, they can take some positives out of it and learn and get better from having played this game. I don't think anyone gave the Colonels a chance to play the Cards this close, but South just could not ever gap them enough to relax, under a minute to go, Whitley cut the lead to 8 off a steal. The Colonels never gave in, which was great to see.

Congrats to both teams on a fun game to watch and a great effort.

With St. John only scoring three points, on the road, with all coming late in the game, then that was a little better win for the Cards.

I would agree, but even when he was in the game he was ineffective, as Whitley did a good job doubling down on him and putting lots of pressure on him. He was a presense defensively blocking shots, but honestly when they play some better teams with better shooters and athletes (and different officials) he won't get away with putting the arm and hands on the body when blocking shots. Even when he did not block shots, he caused Whitley to alter shots. But on the other hand Whitley was in his head from the get go and really frustrated him.

I agree with you Apex.

I agree with you Apex.

Somebody mark this date down in RED, this is a first...Les and I agree!!!!!!!

Just joking......LOL

Whitley, was up 8 to 0 before St john, went out in foul trouble. South, went on a 29 to 10 scoring run before the end of the second qtr. South's smaller line up and press turn in to trouble for Whitley, South turned them over for some easy baskets.

South is 4 and 0 and IMO another good road win when you consider they were not able to get anything out of their big man inside due to foul trouble and a double down defense, if they ever get all their ducks in a row Whitley could become a program somewhat like South, it would take awhile but is can be done with much effort.
