The Total Money Makeover - Dave Ramsey

Paying yourself first is the key and very hard. With the state of the economy I think you are going to be seeing a lot of people having to use CC's as a necessity and that is what is sad.

If you have to use a CC as a necessity then you are living beyond your means to start with.

I certainly agree with you about that. What you might be foregetting is that our unemployment rates are very high right now and I can imagine that some groceries and gas are being charged up as we speak by many of those folks.

Im not talking about using CC's to buy things with, talking about folks who are strapped and have to use CC's for food/gas/etc.

Cutting out Strabucks saved me around $20 a week which doesn't sound like much but looking at it on a monthly scale ($80/mo) that equals half of my car payment!

I also pack my lunch and eat dinner at home. This alone saves me at least $84 a month if you figure spending $6 a meal by eating fast food for lunch and dinner. ($12x7days)

I also cancelled my internet service ($30/mo) and only use it at work.

These 3 cutbacks puts nearly an extra $200/mo in my pocket to apply towards bills

Eating out to me is laziness. I pack now at work, eat healthier. Guys at work laugh at my fruit cups, snack packs, etc. I dont care, they are the ones clogging their arteries and throwing $8 a day down the tubes.

I think rewarding yourself with a nice meal out is one thing but eating out everyday just because you dont feel like packing is laziness.

I cut back my lawn care service to 4 times a year. I am now being more resourcefull about utilizing everything in the pantry and freezer. How many people out there have plenty of food in their house and still go to the grocery to buy more? We all have been there.

Totally agree with you guys. I use to eat out for lunch every day. Now I pack my lunch and usually reward myself with a subway sub on Friday's. Buy one off the $5 foot long menu with a bag of chips. Costs me a little over $6. I always get it carry out and drink water from the fountain at work.
