My understanding is that the old system where the Jefferson Co. 4A champion played the state 4A champion was changed because that setup guaranteed the Jefferson Co. schools a finalist. The 'staters' thought that was not right and requested it changed to a format where you would not necessarily have a Jefferson County school in the finals automatically. Of course the corollary to that is that you may have two Jefferson Co. finalist and no state-wide finalist.

 

I think this issue falls under the 'be careful what you asked for' catagory.
