Les Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 South looks a bit better than I thought. Billy Jones scored 18 points, Matt St. John scored 23, 15 boards, 3 blocks, 3 assists. Williamsburg is improved, too. Wright played 10 guys in the first half. If St. John can stay out of foul trouble, South should be OK.
Deuce41 Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 I think many were hoping that South could not continue to play at the high level that they have in the past. I think this is just another illustration of just how good Steve Wright is as a coach.
Les Posted November 28, 2007 Author Posted November 28, 2007 Well, they're not world beaters, but I believe they'll be fine as the season porgresses.
Deuce41 Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 Probably not, but I believe that Williamsburg is a much improved team, and with that, the Cards hang 81 on them and hold them to 49, not too shabby. I think St. John could be a dark horse to be one of the top players in the region.

Wright is a very good coach, but you have to remember that South Laurel has 1000 more students than Williamsburg...............they are just going to reload every year.

You are correct, but look at Corbin, less students than South or Whitley and they continue to have excellant teams year in and year out, now alot of that is due to a good feeder program but Corbin has had some pretty good coaches too. South does not have the feeder program that say a Corbin has, so alot of it has to do with good coaches. Williamsburg has improved and I expected a closer game, although I am sure when Petite and some of the other football players get in basketball shape they will be better.
Mr.Fundamental Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 Williamsburg was down 13 at half-time according to the box score, what happened in the third quarter?
4chs Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 well, they're not world beaters, but I believe they'll be fine as the season porgresses. Do you think South Laurel will be one of the top three teams in the region? My guess is that they will be before the year is out.
Les Posted November 28, 2007 Author Posted November 28, 2007 Williamsburg was down 13 at half-time according to the box score, what happened in the third quarter? South outscored them 27-6 and the Cards' depth took over along with St. John and Jones. Also, Williamsburg got into foul trouble.

They could be, but then again, I believe North might be in the top three. As long as St. John stays out of foul trouble, South should compete pretty well. Having Jones back in a plus.

Les Posted November 28, 2007 Author Posted November 28, 2007 The foul trouble played a role in the win .... but I believe South still would have won by 20. And, no, I believe Williamsburg is much-improved and will be even better by February. I like Robinson and I like Teague and Cunningham. I was impressed with both.
Mr.Fundamental Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 Thanks for the in-put, how do you think the 50th will come out 1,2,3,4?
Les Posted November 28, 2007 Author Posted November 28, 2007 Thanks for the in-put, how do you think the 50th will come out 1,2,3,4? Hmmmm, That's a hard one. The firt game between South and Corbin could be a toss-up. Right now, I'm going with Corbin, South, W'burg and Whitley.
