And to answer a couple other suggestions, I know company for the cat would be nice, but we are getting only 1 cat. In all honesty, our biggest issue in getting a cat is the litter box. Currently we reside in a fairly small apartment (2 bedroom, 1 bath) and we are worried about placement and the smell through the apartment.

As long as you scoop it daily, the smell is barely noticable, I'd recomment puttin it in some form of closet, instead of out in the open, also, get a litter box that has a top on it, at petsmart in Paducah, you can get one that resembles an igloo, the ones with the top keep the smell in as well
