Covington Catholic defeated the Brossart Mustangs 2-0 in the opening round of the 10th Region Soccer tournament on Monday night at Newport Stadium.

 

Peter Mikhail put the Colonels in front 1-0 on a one-on-one play with the Mustang keeper at the 11:33 mark of the first half, and then put "insurance run" on the board at the onset of the second half on a goal by Ryan Satek at the 38:54 mark. Aaron Noll pitched the shutout for CovCath.

 

Brossart seemingly scored at the 5:34 mark, late in the second half, which was wiped out, ending the Mustangs season at 9-8-2 on the season.

NCC went on to rout the Indians 8-1.

To be perfectly frank, hanging around in the broadcast booth with Dave Tavel has dispossessed me of 50-50 of the respect I had for my futbol mentality which was nearly nil to start with.

 

He made a great pitch in the attacking third that our two scrums are somewhat equal, but as you and I crossed in retort - he must be out of his header!
