Mercer Co. 34 Russell Co. 7

He threw for a couple of nice TD passes. Overall for the Titans the youth really showed. But, there is alot of potential. I really liked what I saw out of McCloud and Yeast. I think once the Qb gets a couple of games under his belt he will be fine. He does have a nice arm on him.

Any relation to Craig?

I dont think Hunter's injury was that severe I saw him back at practice today... We will just have to wait and see how severe it is come Friday night with the way he performs. Jordan had 10 carries for 115 yds. with 2 touchdowns.

D was good in some areas and bad in others. The LBs shared a lot of tackles. We'll be hard to run against. However, we did have a real hard time containing the QB. It was like Lloyd a couple of years ago. Eveytime it looked like we had him for a loss, he left someone tackling air. McCloud had an interception. Hunter Robinson returned a fumble for a TD, I think he forced the fumble also but I'm not sure. We're bigger this year than last year, but we're not as athletic.

:thumb: We'll be fine.....these guys are ready. Sounds like a good game to work out some stage fright. Hopefully no more injuries and I like our chances to be highly competitive. Thanks for the update.

The RB did his job. Nothing more, nothing less. I hate it when a "fan" thinks the leading rusher or passer should be the MVP. The OL was average at best. The D was above average vs. the 2 back I and below average vs. the spread. The soccer player/kicker should have been the MVP because he saved 2 special team TDs. That's going above and beyond the call of duty.

I don't think anyone was making too much of the RB just curious as he is filling some extra special shoes. He worked hard for his yards! Yes the line was a little suspect but expect they will improve along the way. Mercer seems to have some depth at the lineman position which will also help the big boys. Additionally, it was a tad bit hot for the big guys. The kicker did a good job, I don't think he had to make one tackle last season. Russell co. could have easily added 14 points with those returns. This too can be fixed.

Kyle definitely saved the first of the two - all by himself - but I am pretty sure Matthew McCloud came up with the second one. Kyle was circling around to tackle but Matthew got there first.

Here are a few things I noticed:

1. The missing breakaway speed of Jackson and Ford was evident with Mercer having to sustain drives.

2. I liked the running of Yeast, McCloud, and Griffeth. Yeast is a powerful runner that will run over you. Griffeth runs with good balance. McCloud has nice speed.

3. Short demonstrated a nice touch on several of his throws. One of the TD passes was particularly nice how he lofted it over the defender and dropped it right into the partially-covered receiver's arms in stride. The other TD pass was also caught in stride in the back of the end zone. The passing game looked suprisingly well and I'm glad to see that because we're going to need to pass effectively to compete in 5A.

4. Short is also a mobile QB that presents a threat to run and scramble when pressured. You also have to leave enough defenders in the box to account for him.

5. Defense looked solid. Jury is still out on whether we are that good on defense or if Russell County was that average. Another game or two should help tell the tale.

6. I like the concept of the shotgun stuff because it makes the QB a running threat on any play. The wishbone was more effective Saturday, but I hope we stay with the shotgun stuff and keep polishing it. I think we'll need it to compete against the 5A powers.

7. Overall, offense was rusty, but it's still early. I remember thinking it looked rusty at the beginning of last season (scrimmages), but then it started clicking and improved throughout the season.
