North Laurel/Spencer Co. scrimmage

I thought North showed some nice progress from the first scrimmage, and with several new starters as well as 4 new coaches, they are progressing nicely. I like the excitement from the sidelines. Assistant Coach Roark brings a new energy level that the Jags needed and the kids respond.

I thought Wardrup looked good and when the frosh took the field on the final drive, NL's frosh looked solid against the Spencer frosh, driving down the field quickly and scoring in very short order.

I liked the big RB for Spencer County. He runs hard and doesn't go down easy.

North's numbers are up again this year and in the near future, that will really pay off for Coach Abbott and his staff. They are looking to platoon and have very few playing any ironman football as North has had to do for years, and it will pay off in the long run.

I'm very excited about the future of North football, I think its turning into something special. I look for us to place second in our district this year behind Whitley and in front of Clay. I think this District will be a good one in the future with Whitley and North battling for the top spot each year.

Spencer's TB may be one of the best LOOKERS in the state this year...Hopefully he can produce for the team, they had some really large lineman that looked like they could move.

I think Clay will be pretty solid this year and Whitley may be 1 year away from being possibly the best team in the district. Year 3 under Jim Black could be a special year for the Colonels.

I think for North 2005 was 5 of their 7 losses so close that they could easily have been 8-2, 7-3 or 6-4 instead of 3-7. In 2006, a lot of young guys filling spots and the line holes were not easy to fill after 2 years of losing solid linemen and the defense gave up too many big plays. In 2007, the Jags with the new additions to the coaching staff and the experience the kids are getting, will get better as the season goes on and their new district has to be a nice change with new rivalries to build and old ones to maintain. I think within the next few years, as long as the number keep improving as the have the past 5 years and they keep the majority of the large frosh classes they are getting, they could be a district title contender each year. They should be back in the playoffs this season. Each year under Abbott they have had a signature win (2005 over Madison Central, 2006 over South Laurel), but have not been able to sustain any momentum. This year, I think the new coaches have an energy and positive outlook that is contagious and they won't let the kids get down when things aren't going well which will help them get over the rough spots and battle thru.

I look forward to seeing the Jags get back on track and back in the playoffs after a 2 year absence. :thumb:

I believe the young kids will be the kid to NL's season. I saw some exciting play out of the freshman that got reps with the NL varsity. That being said, NL should get better and better as the season progresses. Freshman Johnny Fugate, Robert Lewis, and Enoch (?) need to make their way on to the field.

I think North Laurel has and will show their potential this year. I am picking them as one of the top contenders in their district and region.

This team has talent and will be ready to show it!
