Thoughts & prayers for ump/ref Terry Bond

Featured Replies

NKY referee/umpire Terry Bond is battling Alzheimer's. I ran into his ex-wife who is still looking out after him when he is not at the home that cares for him. Please pray for him and his family as he fights this cruel and debilitating condition. I have fond memories of the softball games/tourneys he ran and the ensuing arguments. He would always let you say your piece if you were "creative" and respectful. But I STILL disagree that if the throw beats you to the base you're out. ( we referred to this call as the "Terry Bond Rule"!)

My prayers are with you "Blue" !

It breaks my heart to hear this about Terry. I started officiating football in 1994 and Terry was my first white hat on the JV/Frosh level. He always had time to answer questions and never made anyone feel like they weren't welcomed on the field. Listening to Terry tell stories of games he had worked in the past gave me great insight to what I could expect to see in the future.

In 96 or 97, I filled in for a game with Terry's varsity crew at Owen County. It rained almost the entire time and the final score was 62-0. (Owen won, but I can't remember who they played.) Terry never lost his focus on his duties, all the while, training and encouraging me. In the locker room after the game, before he got out of his wet uniform, he spent several minutes with me reviewing what we just saw and how we reacted to it. It's because of people like Terry Bond that I'm still an official today. Thank you Terry. GD72

Terry was my knothole baseball coach when I was a boy. He was able to provide a great balance between having fun and teaching us to excel as players. In a similar vein to Greendevil72, it is people like Terry that influenced me to coach knothole baseball so that I could provide a similar positive influence to the kids. I am very sad to hear this, and my prayers and thoughts are with Terry and his family.

Over in Hazard a referee broke his neck in a car wreck, paralyzed and has made a significant recovery. http://www.usafootball.com for the story

It is nice to see another ref on the site.

Terry will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Terry umpired many baseball games I pitched in high school and I remember him as a true professional who took his job seriously. This is a cruel disease as I know first hand, my father at 60 is battling dimensia/earlyonset Alzheimers.

How old is Terry now? just curious.. Prayers are with him.

g-11...Terry must be about ...somewhere in his late 50's/early 60's...but I'm just guessing.

Thats terrible to be so young, I thought my Dad was an abberation of this disease at his young age. I hope he gets the care he needs.
