Franklin County 15 Western Hills 0

Featured Replies

who pitched for franklin?

Evan Bell pitched for FCHS. He only gave up 2 hits. He retired the final 12 batters he faced in order.

Kaelin Ammons was named the Most Valuable Player.

Beside Ammons, Franklin County's Jacob Brackett, Adam Johnson, Evan Bell and David Kennedy were named to the all-tournament team. Joining them were Western Hills' Andy Fisher, Matt Hyatt and Nolan McGaughey, Frankfort's Josh McPherson and Brent Yancey, and Woodford County's Tyler Adams and Gus Sherrow.

What a guarantee? Henry Clay playing on their home field has no chance at winning the district? I would have to say you may be over-looking them.

I guess I didnt overlook too much.

Nope. Instead, you are the man. You nailed that one. I was amazed to see the level of talent in Lexington this year. It is almost unbelievable. When is the last time you can remember all of these division 1 signees and prospects at the same time. There must have been 30 scouts at Henry Clay on Monday. I started looking at the 11th region and there are almost 25 kids that have signed and/or will sign division 1 scholarships in the near future. Usually, Lexington has a few studs, Louisville has a few studs, etc. This year, it seems everything is in Lexington.

I can remember a few years back when Sowers was at Ballard and the kid from Butler (Foley) had everyone talking about the Louisville teams. I can remember more recently how strong Trinity has been but with the exception of PRP, no-one in Louisville can play with Lex Cath or Dunbar.

Congrats to these 2 coaches: I am sure that it is a high pressure situation but who wouldn't want to coach those 2 teams. ENJOY IT WHILE IT IS HERE. WE ARE ONLY THIS FORTUNATE ONCE IN A BLUE MOON... FANS, YOU HAVE GOT TO WATCH THESE 2 TEAMS, IT IS A COLLEGE BASEBALL ATMOSPHERE WITH MAJOR COLLEGE TALENT ON BOTH HIGH SCHOOL TEAMS.

BEST OF LUCK 2 BOTH OF U...

MLB 50, you are absolutely right on. The number of D1 signees in Lexington this year is really incredible. If my memory serves me right, Lex Cath has 5, Dunbar 3, Lafayette 2 and LCA 1. However, there are many many others on those teams that will be playing ball next year at a number of levels, or just haven't decided. The pitcher for LCA that threw a near perfect game in the district is going to Transy. Two of Lafayette's seniors are going to Asbury. There are a couple of Dunbar seniors that haven't decided yet, as well as a couple of Catholic's seniors. All in all, it has been an amazing year, and it is going to be interesting next year as Catholic's #1 and #2 pitchers will be seniors, and LCA's #1 will be a senior, and the junior class at Dunbar will also be out there. One other thing to note, that wasn't touched on in the article in the Herald Leader a couple of weeks ago..of those D1 signees, 4 of them were on the South Lexington team that won the Cal Ripken World Series in 2001. Some of those players from that team are juniors and will have a shot at signing next year, so that team could end up producing 5 or 6 D1 players, as well as guys playing at other levels.
