Have you ever been to one of their shows? From what i have seen, Maynard doesn't interact much with the crowd, strickly business when he is on stage. Some people take offense to that, but i dont mind it.

 

Another interesting fact is, he is from southern Ohio, was a high school athelete and attended one of the military academies. ( I think West Point)

 

Very little interaction from Maynard...he never leaves his little platform in the back. I don't really mind that. I just like a more "live" sound...in concert they sound very, very similar to the studio versions. I'll give them credit for being able to reproduce that live, but I still like to hear something new from a live show. Overall, they're good and worth seeing, and I might end up going to this show, but they aren't the best in concert. Behind Pearl Jam, they are my favorite band, so maybe my expectations were too high...plus I saw PJ first and was hoping Tool could match their live show.

I think its pretty interesting how Maynard doesn't stand in the front of the stage, but just merely sings in the shadows to let Adam, Danny and Justin get all the attention.

It is obvious that the great sound you hear on the album is studio produced. If Tool sounds pretty much the same live as they do on their albums then it just shows how pure their sound is.

I do have a couple youtube videos of a few of their live shows back in the early 90's. Smaller club venues and it looked like they were having fun. Maynard was a bit more open with the crowd.

Yeah, I totally agree with what you said, which is why I give them props for reproducing it live. Their music is not something I imagine would be easy to reproduce live, but I could be wrong. However, just a little something unique thrown in from time to time would really go over good with me.

 

Similar to their live CD from a few years back where they re-arranged the song PuWord Filter ViolationWord Filter ViolationWord Filter ViolationWord Filter Violation. Something like that would be great...if they'd give us a new arrangement on an old song or maybe add a few new lyrics or something.

 

 

I guess I may come off as a little too critical of the band, but if I do, it's only because they (along with Pearl Jam) are on another level for me as far as music goes. My music lists would have Pearl Jam, Tool and Led Zeppelin at the top, with a big gap from there to the rest of the list. So, that's why I expected a Tool show to blow me away, and it just didn't. It was good and worth seeing, but just not on the same level as I expected or wanted. I may actually get to go to the show tonight. My cousin might have an extra ticket. I'm trying not to get excited in case he doesn't, but I'd love to see it.

Yeah, I have it...it came in a little boxed set package with a DVD and a booklet, I think. I didn't realize it was hard to get a copy of...did they quit making them or something? If the price gets high enough, I might burn a copy and sell mine. :lol:

They played my favorite Tool song, 46 and 2. It was a good show, musically they sounded crisp like usual. I did think at some points the amps were turned up just a tad to high, had trouble hearing Maynard a few times.(probably me just being picky)

When I watched them he usually stopped to talk about 3 or 4 times the whole show...maybe...I agree as well, it's often hard to hear his vocals because the music is so loud. They put on a good show. It's just not above and beyond, which is what I'd come to expect from a band of their caliber.
