americanman Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 The Yellow Jackets came back from a Harlan 5-1 led to win the 13th. Region 8-6. Great Pitching by Shelley and Witt. Way to go Jackets.
Col. Fitzgerald Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 Williamsburg always seems to take a while to get going. Aaron Root hit the ball well tonight, JT Shelley threw a great game, but errors killed them, and Geoffery Witt came in to pitch three solid innings and get two bunt hits with an rbi to help his team. Jackets played small ball. If they hit the ball out of the gates, who knows how good they could be.
nomorenoles Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 Great win! Wit with 2 bunt hits, what will Coach Strickland think of next? Witt had been pounding the ball.
Bubba Wilson Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 Maybe the Jackets have visions of a CLASS A title....lol.. Good win. Maybe in the future the Basketball and football teams can be in the same position....lol When you live in a fish bowl,,,,,the biggest goldfish looks like a trophy bass.:walk:
TheDragonGuy Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 yeah...that extremely controversal play at the plate is what gave it to you all. we handed the game over, and that call didn't help either.
americanman Posted April 22, 2007 Author Posted April 22, 2007 I dont that that play at the plate is what lost the game for you guys. If you are meaning the play where Moses threw the guy out from center. Williamburg's catcher had the plate blocked and the runner never got to it. Harlen did however give this game away. When you are up by 5 runs and your ace in on the mound then you should be able to finish. Williamsburg has a way of coming up with the big plays when they need them. Dont tae anything away from either team, they both played a solid game and I look foreward to watching Williamsburg and Paintsville play.
TheDragonGuy Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 The catcher had the plate blocked before he had the ball, and I also have a picture that shows quite a bit of evidence that John Smith is on the plate and the ball and the glove is not making contact with his leg. I can send it to you if you would like.
Col. Fitzgerald Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 Still that is just one run. Williamsburg won by two. Scoring that run wouldn't have done too much to slow them down. Im not taking anything away from Halran, good team also, but Williamsburg won. Welcome to life! Everyone cant see everything so the ump called what he could see, and obviously it was in Wburgs favor.
volfan782000 Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 The block at the plate was outstanding by the Root kid. I know Harlanites will say he was safe but having the clearest view was the ump and he made the call. Root is as tough as nails and one of the best defensive catchers I've seen in some years. He definitely brings his linebacker mentality to the catcher's position.
nomorenoles Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 Root blocked the plate like his daddy taught him. Good work by a very tough kid.
Bubba Wilson Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 Missed calls happen all the time. Controversal calls almost every contest....look at Ohio State and Xavier with the Oden call and even closer to home the South Laurel 6 vs Corbin in the 13th region finals.....you just have to pick up the pieces and move on. Good luck Jackets in the ALL A.
Col. Fitzgerald Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 To be honest I really don't like Williamsburg Football... and what does football have to do with baseball. Congradulations on winning in football, but guess what? You lost in baseball!
