April 22, 200719 yr Bill Simmons had a great take on it. Kobe would be the first guy picked if you lined all the NBA players up and chose sides for a pickup game. However, if you took the top player off of each team and replaced them with an average NBA player there are several players in the league whose absence would be more detrimental to their teams overall results than Kobe. He's the best scorer in the NBA and a Hall of Famer, but he's closer to Dominique Wilkins than to Michael Jordan.
April 22, 200719 yr Watching the second half of the game, I thought that the Lakers looked better with Kobe on the bench. The ball movement was much better without him. He went cold and was still forcing up shot after shot that he had no business doing and I think that really killed any momentum they had.
