March 16, 200719 yr I agree with you. I grew up watching the Cats, watching Kevin Greevy and all of the 70's crew. I also followed the Cards, and was a fan of them (When they weren't playing the Cats). But somewhere along the way, as JD IF You please stated, Kentucky basketball just wasn't the same. And the era of Sutton came into play, which was horrible for UK and UL became the team to watch with Coach Denny Crum (in my opinion, one of the greatest coaches ever) and I shifted to being a fan of the Cats and Cards but cheering for the Cards when they played each other. For me, it just went downhill from there for the Cats and sometime during the early 90's, I completely stopped rooting for the Cats. And the point I like to make you help highlight. Why are so many people killing Tubby, but giving Sutton a free pass? Losing season, probation, and he doesnt have a title either.
March 16, 200719 yr Author JD, are you changing your stance now? Are you are saying you still support the program just not with "uncritical devotion"? When your thread title says "I am not a UK fan anymore", then I take it to mean just that, that you don't support them anymore. Maybe you meant to use fanatic in the thread title. Fan and Fanatic do not carry the same meaning in the real world. Nobody I know would meet your definition of fanatic. I doubt you ever did, and neither have I. But that is not what the word fan means to 99.9% of the sporting world. A true UK "fan" in my book, rushes home to watch the game, tries to go see one at Rupp, tapes the game if they can't catch it live, or rushes to ESPN to see the box score and results. I enjoy watching WVU more than watching the Cats because they run a different offense and a fun when they are hitting. Last time I watched a UK home game was 2002, up until hen I watched 2-3 a year.
March 16, 200719 yr Don't take my comments the wrong way, JD. I'm not knocking you or trying to put words in your mouth. This is your thread and it is by and large about your "fandom" if you will, so I am trying to understand where you are in that. You don't do those things, so you don't consider yourself a fan. I understand that part and that is your right. But you seem to get offended when others labeled you a fair weather fan because you have jumped ship during bad times. Given that, then how would you label yourself if you are not a fan? Are you reserving the right to come back on board if they have a reversal of fortunes? Would that be true with or without Tubby?
March 16, 200719 yr IMO, when UK again reaches the Final Four, you will see a lot of these people who are no longer UK fans pushing each other out of the way to climb back on the bandwagon.
