Position: DL

Measurables: 6'4"/265 lbs

Offers: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M, UK, and UofL, among others

Not just for Mr. Hall but for any player, especially a 5 star player, I wouldn't commit until the end of my senior season so that I have the best idea on what my freshman year in college may look like with a given team. Too much changes too fast to make an early commitment.

I think it depends on how much cash is offered. I think these kids have to seriously consider committing before the money gets spent. It’s part of the new crazy.

I do agree there. With that said, I would still want to account for the larger amounts spent on players each year or in simple terms the total amount each school is spending (that attracts five star players) on their football program each year. Meaning a good deal today for a 5 star would not be a good deal two years from now.

Also here, just a bit of work with AI gave me the following numbers:

Market-wide growth (Opendorse data)

  • Power 4 football players earned $393.3 million in 2021, and that rose to about $1 billion last year. The in-between years were roughly $667 million in 2022 and $840 million in 2023. That is about 2.5x in three years. nil-wirenil-wire

  • Across all college sports, Opendorse puts NIL spending at $917 million in 2021-22, up to $2.75 billion in 2025-26. That is about 3x, and football is the largest share of it. dataintelo

  • The mix changed too. In year one, commercial brand deals were the bulk of the market, but by year three collectives were about $936 million versus about $234 million for commercial deals.

Overall, top programs went from low-to-mid single-digit millions in NIL in the early years to roughly $20M by 2024. Now they are at about $35M to $50M in total roster spending, counting school revenue sharing. That is roughly a 10x increase at the top over five years. I’m inferring that last number from the pieces above, since no source reports it directly.
