10th Region: Week 11

Featured Replies

The back half of the 10th experienced some wild shakeups this week— and we almost had a major upset. 4 over 3 doesn’t seem major in most places, but the gulf between 3 and 4 in the 10th is a chasm. And Nicholas almost shocked the region. The seedings are all set for the 10th districts and things are looking bright for a fantastic tournament at the Fieldhouse. This week is when everyone sharpens up gameplans, puts the hay in the barn, and let’s the balls roll out.

1.) George Rogers Clark ?||  (21-4)   Great Crossing and Mercer County weren’t much contest for the Cardinals. They’re primed and ready for a March run. MoCo and Campbell have punchers chances, but I maintain it’s the Cardinals’ to lose. They use this weeks opponents in North Laurel, Western Hills and West Jessamine to ensure they’re prepared.

2.) Montgomery County ?|| (14-10) Bourbon and Paris equally didn’t match up well against MoCo. This week Scott, Trinity and Boyd are the final gauntlet before tourney time. Austin Sears seems to be coming on nicely and the team is gelling at the right time. All eyes on the 40th next week.

3.) Campbell County ?|| (18-9)  Ryle handling the Camels surprised me, and it must have surprised them too— because the hangover carried to Nicholas Co on Friday, and despite Austin Davie’s 50 burger they almost lost in OT. St Henry is the only opponent this week, plenty of time to rest up for what will be a banger of a 37th District Tourney.

4.)Bourbon County (?2)   ?|| (17-10) It’s honestly tricky at this point with the parity we’ve seen in the middle of the 10th. But Brossart lost ugly to Ryle, and Nicholas lost to this Bourbon team. It’s crazy to me that this team is even in the discussion of top 5, but here we are. The 40th is as tough as it gets.

5.) Bishop Brossart (? || (14-11) Wins over Mason and Harrison helped the Mustangs hang in the top 5, but honestly, struggling against Harrison has me concerned. The loss to Ryle was ugly, but not near as concerning as a Harrison struggle. This week it’s Bellevue and NewCath, but those are just warmups for next Tuesday night in Claryville.

6.) Nicholas County (?1)? || (18-9) Almost pulling out a major win in Camel Country might be the highlight of the season for the BlueJackets. A tough loss to Bourbon drops them, and Carlisle might be missing it’s best chance to make some noise in a region in a long time. Ryle, Morgan County and Raceland will help them get ready for districts.

7.)  Scott ? (?1) || (13-11)  Beating Fleming County was a step in the right direction, and we’re probably too late in the season for moral victories, but almost putting one on crosstown rival Simon Kenton points to some positive momentum in Taylor Mill. This week they see Walton Verona, MoCo and Bourbon.

8.) Pendleton County (?1) ?|| (14-11) The Cats have been in the mix all year. Lost a tough seed game to Nicholas, but definitely showed the fight they need to feel optimistic heading into districts. This week Fleming and Grant are the last two on the docket before a looming rematch with the Bluejackets

9.) Calvary Christian  (?2) ?|| (16-9)  Heritage walking out of the Cougar Den with a 9 point win is definitely noteworthy. Calvary has been playing as well as we’ve seen in a decade, but that’s concerning. The Brossart loss tells a tale too. This week is busier than most. Gallatin Co, Augusta, Portland Christian and Whitefield Academy.

10.) Bracken County ?‍❄️ (?1) || (13-12) Walking off the court wasn’t something to be proud of, but bouncing back to two wins the reset of the week is. Bellevue, Frankfort and East Carter get them ready for what is undoubtedly the most wide-open a 39th district tournament has ever been.

11.)  Mason County ? (?1) || (4-17) Losing two games in a week and still climbing in the ranks is a sign of how bad the rest of the 10th struggles. Brossart and Pendleton both pulled double digit wins in the Fieldhouse. But, Mason was able to topple Augusta the second time around. Harrison, Bath and Greenup all ahead for the week.

12.) Paris ? || (3-18) Young, inexperienced and learning. That’s been the story all year and continues to be the story. Two tough opponents this week, then a first round exit in the 40th.

13.) Augusta ? (?3) || (7-13)  A disappointing week in Clooney-ville. Pendleton and Mason both took the W. But, Jason Hinson is built for tournament time, and Calvary and Ludlow are their last opportunities for tune ups before things get wild in Maysville.

14.) Robertson County (?2)  ?|| (4-21) 3 wins in 4 games is a tiny glimmer of hope in Mt. Olivet. Times are tough, but the kids haven’t given up.

15.)  St Pat ?||  (7-14) Losing to RoCo is tough, but still a fine season for the Saints, and they’re setting their sights on a first 10th Region Tourney in several years.

16.)  Harrison County ?(?4)|| (5-20)  The drop was precipitous. The season, calamitous. Everyone is just happy that baseball is just around the corner.

Wow…dropping Harrison to rock bottom? They nearly upset Brossart and Paris, and have beat Robertson by 41 and 51 points.

I would keep Nicholas above Brossart.

You’re pretty spot on for the rest.

Probably over reacting to each, but I wanted to give Robertson a little boost, they have a soft spot in my mean, calloused grumpy old man heart.

Harrison County beat Robertson County 68-17 and 86-45
