February 9, 200719 yr Why do we have different denominations? If we only have one God and one Jesus.Where does it say in the Bible that Jesus wants us to break off into different groups because we all can't agree on the same thing?
February 9, 200719 yr Man making calls on the word of Jesus Christ that bests fit their situation rather than what the Bible says. Not to put this on the feet of the Catholics, but the view that the Pope brings new messages/interpretations/whatever you want to call it, sits it up as man making calls and other men disagreeing with it. This lead to breaks and denominations. Whether the Pope was right or wrong is irrelevant but rather the men at that time didn't want to hear it. Same as what is going on with the Episcopals. One group feels they can interpret the Bible to say that homosexuality is acceptable, so they do that. The others who hold the viewpoint that the Bible does not say homosexuality is acceptable break from them. Man's interpretations to JUSTIFY what they want to do RATHER THAN what the Bible SAYS led to denominations.

February 9, 200719 yr Two words (one name really)...... Martin Luther. Three words (one name really) on why we get the 3rd Monday in January off.....Martin Luther King, Jr.
February 10, 200719 yr The Holy Bible is written in such a way as to be open for "interpretation" by those who seek to do so. Often, "interpreters" have/had their own "notions" of what it should all mean and, thus, hunted scripture that they could twist and turn to meet their own ideas. Therefore, we have all of these new denominations few of which can remotely trace themselves back to the Eighteenth Century let alone to the time of Jesus Christ. Unfortunately for all of us, The Holy Bible, including the version generated by King James of England, is written in such a way as to be interpreted in various and sundry manners by those who choose to do so. Right or wrong, the Roman Catholic Church has been around for over 2,000 years. I know of no Protestant church that can remotely make a similar claim since most were started by or evolved from disgruntled former Catholics.
February 10, 200719 yr Author So I guess that Baptist,Church of God,Church of Christ are all American made?
February 10, 200719 yr Author I know that most other Denominations believe that people who are saved that belong to other Denominations can go to heaven. From my experience with The Church of Christ they believe that they are the only ones getting into heaven.
February 10, 200719 yr So I guess that Baptist,Church of God,Church of Christ are all American made? I believe the Church of Christ was started in this country by Alexander Campbell (thus often referred to as the "Campbellites") around the 1830s or 1840s. I am not familiar with the founding of the other two but would assume that, whether older or younger, their origins are similar. Do you have facts to the contrary?

No facts from me,Im just seeing if I can learn something.

Surely, they don't really think they have all the answers. I don't think even old Alexander Campbell thought that way.

I, for some reason, thought they did not feel this way per the Pope and not individual Catholics? Doesn't the Jehovah Witnesses believe that only 144,000, the number in the book of Revelations, are getting in. Thus, why they do so much work.
