Are your players required to play summer ball?

And that is only if they have players from their high school on the team. They may coach other kids, and their own son, all summer if they choose. Also, not using their own facilities.

What if their son is on the high school team. Can they continue to coach that team during the dead period?

What does anyone think about seniors coming out for school baseball teams without having played since babe ruth or before. Most thinking because they are seniors they will play in front of younger boys. I think they figure the younger ones will play JV. Should it not go by ability rather than age?

If they help the team, you play student-athletes regardless of age.

I'm all for paying dues, putting in time but if you're playing to win....You have to put the best on the field.

Youth Leagues are for playing, HS is for striving to win.

I totally agree. Great Post. Sometimes things are opposite though in this case you have seniors that have went all the way through that are great for the team and you have younger ones coming up that can add to the team. They have done really well on the JV level. My thing is seniors coming out just to play their last year. I think if they were going to play and commit and work they would be doing it before this year. Most feel they have a different agenda of why they are playing this year. They also have a uncanny way of quiting every team they get on after taking another boys possible positions. I do believe it is about winning but win with the ones that are dedicated to play. Just venting thanks for listening to an old man rant.

New players, be it Freshman or Seniors, must have the priority of the "Team First"....If not, attitude, work ethic and team chemistry will wane and focus will be away from the task at hand.

Most Coaches who are organized, prepared, motivated and driven...will make student-athletes "earn" their playing time. Returning players, usually have spots to lose, if they have been conditioning, improving on their own and working to get better....If not, someone who is willing to outwork a teammate, will get a chance.

Work ethic, effort, ability and team success....must be the deciding factors, on who plays and who doesn't.

Thank you it seems like you answered any questions I may have had about earning their time. I have been out of it for awhile due to health reasons so it was just word of mouth I was talking about. I spent many years at the ballfield and behind the plate and was hoping politics hadnt taken instead of good old fashion baseball. There is just nothing like it in the world.
