2A District 7 Championship game this Friday at the "Rock". Who you got and why?

One of the week's biggest games, with a lot to sink your teeth into.... there's a district championship on the line, as well as another step toward an unbeaten regular season for Prestonsburg.

Two of EKY's best players will share the field: P'burg's Kain Patton is an all-purpose back with 1,700+ yards from scrimmage and 23 touchdowns. He's gotten a little Mr. Football watchlist love this year. Martin County counters with Devan Maynard, a dual threat quarterback with 2,000+ total yards and 27 touchdowns accounted for, plus three interceptions and a pick-six as a DB.

Prestonsburg has been an offensive machine this season, averaging 46 points per game and leading the state in rushing at a hefty 373 yard average.

Martin County has won seven straight since a Week 1 loss, six of them by three scores or more. The Cardinals have topped 40 points every week during the current seven game win streak.

The Blackcats won 22-21 last year after scoring late and converting a gutsy two pointer rather than kick for overtime.

Need I say more? This is a hidden gem that deserves more attention. If you're a neutral fan struggling to find a game to dial into this week, look no further.

This game is also one of our Pick 5 games:

I watched Martin County's first two games and thought they may be a pretty bad team who happened to have a really good QB and really good two way RB/LB.

They have really improved a good bit since Week 1 and although I think Pburg is the better all-around team it wouldn't shock me to see Martin County ride Maynard like Tim Tebow to an upset.

At the end of the day, Martin County's Achilles' heel is they are very slow. Big, strong, and two really good players... but as a team they are very heavy footed. Pburg has their own flaws but they do have good quickness and guys who fly to the ball on defense. I think this one if close but I think Pburg just has too much ability to make plays.

Kain Patton has been quiet so far. Clay Runyon has been the star for Prestonsburg with two interceptions. The second was a pick-six.

Both were bad throws by Maynard.

Business has picked up in the 3Q.

Prestonsburg lost in the last game of the regular season last year, costing them a perfect regular season.

They're 8-0 right now. Is it deja vu or can they seal the deal this time?

Edit: After fact checking myself, they have a game with Estill County next week.

Impressive response by the Blackcats to go back on top. Two point conversion is denied. That may come back to bite them.

36-30 Prestonsburg

Turnover on downs by the former Sheldon Clark.

Prestonsburg will kneel it out.

Ballgame. The Blackcats move to 9-0 in a 36-30 nailbiter.
