The football season heads into October as this week the Danville Admirals (5-1, 2-0) host 6A Southern (1-4).  The most recent game for each team was a tale of polar opposite outcomes as Danville shut out district opponent Shawnee 41-0 and Southern fell to 3A DeSales 44-0.  There are also different outcomes when it comes to scoring as the Ads have combined for 196 points this season and Southern has scored a mere 59.

Southern enters this game off a bye, so they will be more rested than Danville, who has played every week of the season.

Danville has beaten a few higher tier opponents this year in Anderson County and Fairdale, which has contributed to the Ads being number two in 2A RPI.  They have another chance to notch a win against a higher class opponent here before re-entering district play.  Southern is looking for some positive momentum before embarking on their own district campaign.

Danville takes the ball first.  Meaux just needs 12 yards for 1,000 for the season.

Ads try a playaction pass on 1st & 10 but there's no one open and freshman QB Dillion Cruver throws it away.

Jet sweep by Peters goes for a loss of a yard.

3rd & 10 sees Cruver overthrow a swing pass to Meaux, so the Ads have to punt after a disappointing start to the game.

Ads punt it out of their territory.

 

Trojans get flagged for a false start on their 25, so it pushes them back to their 20.

1st down sees a run that is stuffed.

2nd & 15 sees a toss to Isaiah Sneed for 8 yards.

3rd & 7 sees Trojans flagged again for a false start.  Turns things into 3rd & 12 and Trojans throw out of the Wildcat but the pass falls incomplete.

Trojans punt on 4th down.  Sellers nearly fumbles it away after taking a hard hit.  Cam Peters keeps it from being turned over.  Ads will start on their 47.

1st & 10 Ads feed Meaux for a 5 yard gain to get into Trojan territory.

2nd & 5 sees Southern flagged for offsides, generating a new first down.

1st & 10 Sellers takes a jet sweep for a long way but the Ads are flagged for holding so it comes back.

1st & 20 Meaux gets his 1,000 yards for the season and runs 54 yards into the end zone for a TOUCHDOWN.

Extra point by Cisneros is good.

Danville leads 7-0 with 8:04 to go in the first quarter.

Southern fumbles the kickoff away but the Admirals were offside on the kickoff so it has to be redone and they lose an opportunity.  Cisernos' second kick goes out of bounds so Southern starts their drive on their 35 yard line.

Southern fumbles a handoff and the Admirals pick that up on the Trojans 35 yard line.

1st & 10 Cruver throws to Peters for a first down (16 yard gain).

1st & 10 Meaux races 20 yards into the end zone for his second touchdown tonight.

Cisneros' extra point is good.

Admirals now lead 14-0 with 7:15 to go in the first quarter. 

Southern has a long return but it is called back for a facemask.  Their drive begins on their own 40.

1st & 10 run out of the wildcat goes nowhere.

2nd & 10 another run is attempted by Southern and it goes for 3 yards.

3rd & 7 Southern is flagged for a delay of game as these penalties hurt them tonight.  Having trouble getting lined up.  Ads radio team says the Trojans are trying to run too complicated of an offense.

3rd & 12 David Shelton gets a sack but is flagged for a horse collar tackle.

3rd & 2 Shelton ends up blowing up a run play, forcing a Southern punt.

Southern is flagged yet again for delay of game before they punt.  Sellers receives and breaks it all the way to the end zone for a TOUCHDOWN.

Cisneros' extra point is good.

Danville extends the lead to 21-0 with 3:55 to go in the first quarter.  In some ways, this game is like the Ads playing a version of what they were last year.

Cisneros' kickoff goes out of bounds again, so Southern starts again on their 35.

1st & 10 Admirals tackle Southern for a loss but the Admirals are flagged for a facemask personal foul.

1st & 10 Southern pass fails.

2nd & 10 Southern run goes for a few yards.

3rd & 8 QB sneak goes for 13 yards to the Admiral 30.

1st & 10 QB Elijah Simpson overthrows a receiver in the end zone.

2nd & 10 Simpson runs for 2 yards.

3rd & 8 Simpson runs for 2 yards until Marquis Elmore stops him short of the sticks.

4th & 6 Southern is flagged for a false start at the Admiral 25.

4th & 11 Simpson is forced out of the pocket and sacked.  Turnover on downs.  Admirals will take over on their own 43.

1st & 10 FB Brayden Ford runs for 4 yards.

First quarter ends.  Danville leads 21-0.

2nd & 6 run by Ford gets Danville four yards.

3rd & 2 Meaux number is called and he gets the first down by running to the Southern 49.

1st & 10 Cruver deep pass to Marquis Elmore is incomplete.

2nd & 10 Cruver throws again and this time hits his target in J'Kaivin Walker on a deep post, who takes to the end zone for a TOUCHDOWN.

Extra point is good.

Admirals now lead 28-0 with 10:35 to go in the second quarter.

This time the kickoff is in play and Southern is tackled at their 39.

1st & 10 Simpson pass incomplete.

2nd & 10 Southern runs for 5 yards.

3rd & 5 Leonard for Southern runs for 3 yards.

4th & 2 Southern cannot corral the snap and that snuffs out what they were trying to do.  Turnover on downs with 9:02 to play in the first half.

1st & 10 Cruver's attempted throw to Sellers falls incomplete.
