TP94 Power Ratings - 10/1/25

Featured Replies

The ratings use Avg. margin of victory/loss and is applied to strength of schedule played to date. There is a cap of 35 pts for avg margin to keep a team's rating being inflated from running up the score on lower rated opponents. Out of state opponents are not included. Ratings are posted on Wednesdays.

That is because the calculations don't look at just one slice of the pie.

HSratings.com also have Ryle ahead of Cooper. That Cooper loss to Highlands was bigger than Ryle loss to Highlands plus Cooper had big loss to Manual. You are right about many slices of pie that math equations have to sort. Could be in a rematch Ryle wins or could be just wrong. Some times teams don't play each night to their expected form after all these are highschool kids and we know NFL and College sometimes don't bring it each game.

An extreme example of how a lower rated team could win a state championship and maybe not be in top 5. Let's say a team has the greatest defense in the history of Kentucky but because all the best kids are on defense and don't play both ways the offense isn't good but good enough to kick field goals because defense gives them great field position off of turnovers and forcing 3 and outs so they win every game 3-0 or maybe 2-0 because defense gets a safety and the schedule is relatively weak until the playoffs. That could be an example where RPI would have them rated higher than power ratings.
