What is y'alls philosophy on scheduling Varsity Games? Historic and traditional rivalries with the same few teams, their district, and that doesn't leave very many open games to try and schedule tough opponents, cupcakes, higher RPI teams etc. 

I have heard many people say they like having a schedule with 3-4 cupcakes, 3-4 games with opponents equal to them, and 2-3 teams better than them to really gauge where they are at. If you were a coach how would you go about scheduling? Fans seem to only care about wins and losses, but know that 10-0 against the school of the blind doesn't really build culture and prolonged success. We also know that some fan bases will run you out of town with less than 7-8 wins a season if you schedule too tough of opponents even though iron sharpens iron. Is there a system you all believe in for scheduling and what if a historic rival is down and the game wouldn't be close or you guys are down and they are out of your league? How far would you travel etc?

I would love to see more teams cross the border and play games. However, KHSAA needs to fix the out of state RPI metric.

I agree, geographically we’re in a prime location to be able to do that sort of thing, 1/3 of the 120 counties border one of our seven neighboring States. Would be great for our student athletes, KY high school football doesn’t get much praise but if we’re able to win games in places they believe to be more competitive than the Bluegrass State it will definitely garner some attention. Especially with the respect they give Ohio, Tennessee, and Illinois, a real opportunity in my opinion but a very tall task.

I think if you are building a program, you want to have easier schedule to get some wins because it's easier to kids to play if you're winning games. Harder to kids to come out for football if a perennial loser. If a top tier program I would schedule tough because your district will probably has a couple easier teams in it. I remember when Trinity started 0-5 due to very tough schedule of out of state teams then won a state championship that same season. I know RPI is now a factor for some so have to consider that as well since doesn't make sense for a 6A team to schedule a lower class team if you legit have chance at making it to at least the 3rd round.

I’d do exactly what Scott County is doing.

Play some 6A teams who aren’t very good, play some powerhouses in 5A/4A and everything else is in the district.
