Notes:

-The unbeaten march continues for Clinton County, as they remain one of only two unbeaten teams in the state, and move to 17-0 with a trio of wins, taking home the All "A" region crown with it.  The Bulldogs pasted Foundation Christian 71-26 to open the tourney, equaled their closest win of the year with a 71-61 win over Cumberland County, and finished it off today with a 62-47 win over district rival Monroe County.  No team has gotten closer than 10 points to Clinton County.  Their 25.2 average margin of victory is 2nd in the state behind Jenkins's 25.4 margin - the Bulldogs are also #7 in team defensive scoring.  They will host the same two teams they just beat - Cumberland County and Monroe County - this week.  If they win both, they will equal the longest winning streak and best start in school history (19-0 in 1981/82), and if they play it as scheduled, they'd have a chance to surpass it against Russell County on Monday, January 20th.  If they make it to the All "A" unbeaten, and win it, there's a good chance they go unbeaten during the regular season. 

-Week 2 of the 14th District is in the books, and we continue to have confirmation of widely held beliefs.  That being that Warren Central and Bowling Green are the best two teams in the district, Greenwood is a very clear threat but at current a step back of each, and South Warren is playing catch up.  Central hosted Greenwood this week, and jumped all over the Gators in the first quarter, leading by 13 after one, and ultimately took a lead they wouldn't relinquish thanks to a 22-4 lead.  It's a good thing the Dragons hit them that hard early, because adjustments were made, and the Gators forced nine turnovers in the fourth quarter, scoring 11 straight at one point to draw within three, before faltering late to the tune of a 62-52 result.  But it was clear, the Gators were there to play, and given that it was on the road at Central, it is not much of a stretch to envision the result could be different when the venue changes later this month.  Meanwhile, Bowling Green moved to 35-0 all-time against the Spartans, notching a 73-58 victory on the road.  The game was closer entering the fourth, just a four point game, but South continues to be unable to solve the top of the district.  The Purples shot almost 61% from the floor in the game, including 7/17 from three.  Six Purples scored, almost all of them got to double digits (placing five).  Luke Idlett was 2/3 from deep in the game, and has ascended to be the leading scorer for the team with 15.5 PPG.  More than that, Idlett leads the state in three point percentage, shooting a staggering 67.6% from deep (46/68).  The KHSAA strangely doesn't seem to have a record book for anything other than the Sweet 16, so there's no telling where it would rank in history of single seasons, but it's tough to imagine (m)any seasons better than that.

-A special addition to that for Bowling Green - that 35-0 streak against South Warren is not their longest active or all-time (though it is easily highest among teams they've never lost to - next highest is 14-0 against Muhlenberg County).  They extended the longest streak in their game Tuesday - wiping Warren East off the map in an 86-44 victory.  That was their first meeting in three years, and the 57th victory in a row for Bowling Green in the series.  There's only five other teams that Bowling Green has even beaten 57+ times total. 

-It did not lead to an immediate victory, but Glasgow got a welcome return this week, as talented junior Jerrick Martin returned to the lineup for the first time this season.  Martin was the leading returning scorer for the team after averaging 11.7 PPG a season ago, but an injury has had him sidelined until now.  The Scotties dropped a tough overtime decision to Barren County by a 49-47 score - their seventh loss in eight games - but there is very real reason for optimism for Glasgow.

-There's even more reason for optimism for Barren County, whose victory in that game gave them a critical road victory in the district, and likely means the only thing in between them and the #1 seed in the district tournament is a home game against Glasgow on the 24th.  They do need to defeat Allen County-Scottsville in Trojan Gym this Friday, but it would be shocking to see the Trojans drop that.  As for Glasgow, Barren County has not lost to them at home in just over six years.

Games to Watch:

-Obviously THE game is #1 Warren Central at #2 Bowling Green.  The two teams have met in six of the last seven region finals, and right now appear to be heavy favorites to meet there again.  The two are currently a combined 23-4, and it would be surprising for them not to win their tune ups heading in to make it 25-4.  For Bowling Green, it is their first home game in district play this year, a sizable advantage over Warren Central that the Purples have already grabbed two road wins while both of Warren Central's district wins were at home.  Bowling Green did drop their most recent home game, a 66-63 loss to Woodford County, that ended a 12 game home win streak.  Still, the Purples are very, very tough to beat at home, and have won 39 of their last 41 district games at home, including their last five.  They've also won eight of their last ten home games against Warren Central, so there is a very clear recipe for success in this anticipated meeting.  Warren Central showed their first vulnerability at full strength in the latter half of their game against Greenwood, particularly when it came to pressure.  Bowling Green is very, very well known for their full court press.  It will be interesting to follow the game, and to see what each team reveals, given their expectation to play four times. 

-Also keep an eye on the Glasgow at Warren East matchup.  If Glasgow wins, it will set up a probable winner-take-all scenario in that Barren County/Glasgow matchup on the 24th.  If Warren East wins, it will keep their hopes of a #1 seed alive, but it will require Glasgow to win in that matchup on the 24th to create a three-way tie.  Since the teams would have split their matchups, the second tiebreaker would decide things - total points allowed in head to head matchups, which is a bit crazy.

Congratulations to Clinton County!  I'm pulling for them to go undefeated in the regular season!

Will 100% be in attendance for THE game Friday evening, easily one of my favorite HS events in the calendar year. I’m not sure the Purples will be able to hang with Warren Central and their size, though you make a good point in the sense of BG wanting to speed up the game on the defensive end. I just don’t believe they’ll be able to do it effectively thus leading to a lot of breakaway buckets for the Dragons, interesting matchup nonetheless but I’ll take Central by 10+ on the road.
