8th Region

Featured Replies

Any thoughts on the 8th this year? Anderson, Spencer and South Oldham feel like the obvious. Want to go with South to win it.

Anderson and Spencer lose centerpiece players but still retain enough to make a run. What Spencer can do defensively certain will keep them in the conversation and Anderson, well, talent plus Birdwhistell plus the name on the jersey, it all just equals success.

North Oldham loses a bunch including Ella Morrison but returning the very dynamic Madison Young does count for a lot.

I am intrigued by Simon Kenton. Jeff Stowers coming back as head coach and the team coming off a 21 win season with most of the points returning. And, unlike some of the other contenders, you don't have just one scoring threat to focus on (at least out of the gate).

Grant County also has Cummins, Barnes, and Ginn all returning and will not be an easy out for anyone.

Walton also returns a lot meaning that the 32nd is going to be really fun.

I think if you are looking for a team that takes a step back and is in rebuilding mode, that would be North Oldham. Oldham County is also probably right there with them. I don't see there being much resistance to South Oldham in the district.

Woodford County has Hailee Gordon returning in the backcourt. They are in the stacked district with Shelby, Collins, Anderson, and Spencer though. Will be tough for them to make it out.

It is hard to think that SK won’t be a force this year. They return a ton!

SK returns all of their starting lineup so, are definitely a force in the 8th. They are not deep off the bench and that may be an issue. Staying out of foul trouble will be a priority. I think Grant has the potential to do well in the region as well. Looking forward to some good competition in the region.

Region will come down to:

Anderson

Spencer

South Oldham

Simon Kenton

The rest are taking up spots in the region tourney.

My preseason top 10 on the girls side

1) Anderson County- gonna be my number 1 until someone proves otherwise.

2) Simon Kenton- that someone could very well be in NKY. These girls can play.

3) South Oldham- Madison Young is getting D1 offers all over the place . Can she lead her team to a regional title? She will need some help.

4) Grant County- really impressed with this group last year. They play 94 ft and can really score the basketball.  Could be a sleeper to upset one of the favorites come Regional Tourney time.

5) Spencer County- graduated some key pieces from last years team but one of the best coached team in the area so who knows!

6) Walton Verona- could be the third best team in their district but has the talent to cut down the nets at the regionals if the ball bounces their way. Returning their 3 best players from last season.

7) Woodford County- 3 of their top 4 scorers are returning from last year. Yellowjacket’s will look to put together a winning season and make it to the regional tourney.

8) Oldham County- some young talent looking to improve on a 10 win season from last year.

9) Trimble County  - some more young talent in Bedford . Their goal is to cut down the nets at the District tourney and advance to the region.

10) Gallatin County- it will be a tight race between Gallatin and Owen but gave the edge to the team from Warsaw.
