Logan County (7-2) at South Warren (7-2)

The Cougars head east across 68-80 to take on the Spartans of South Warren.  This will be the 8^th meeting between the 2 schools with South Warren holding a 5-2 lead in the series.  Logan County beat South in their opening season of varsity football back in 2011 (24-13) and then STUNNED the Spartans last fall 27-17 at South Warren.  That 2022 defeat came on the heels of a grinding loss at Greenwood which knocked South to the #3 spot in the district last season.

Logan County Information

The Cougars has been solid this year with only 2 losses vs a good Greenwood squad and a powerful Paducah Tilghman squad.  They also got a big district OT win vs rival Allen County-Scottsville.  Last week they took care of business vs a Warren East missing its QB and pulled away in the second half for a 49-21 district win.

Logan County is led by SO QB Ridge Holman (Great Name!) with over 1,500 passing yards on the season with 17 TDs vs only 4 INTs.  Also SR Davin Yates has over 700 yards rushing with 11 TDs and over 500 yards passing with another 7 TDs for the Cougars.  Great season so far!

South Warren Information

South comes in this game on the heels of sowing up the #2 spot in 5A District 2 by blasting hapless Ohio County 41-0.  South Warren is led by Star JR QB Byrce Button who has over 2,400 yards through 8 games with 29 TDs vs only 5 INTs.  SR RB Jimmy Sales has nearly 600 yards rushing on the season with 2 TDs.  South also has several capable WRs led by SR Bailey Shoemaker with 41 catches for nearly 850 yards and 10 TDs on the year.

Defensively, South is a very good unit with strong LBs with Jace Catrona, Ethan Reynolds (may be injured) and Colton Veltcamp.

Game Information

The game will be played at South Warren High School football field.  Logan County hadn’t had much success at all until 2022.  Can the Cougars make it 2 in a row or with South Warren get back in the win column vs Logan County?

Surprised I did not already see a thread on this game. #9 in 4a Logan County is on the road to face a loaded #3 in 5a South Warren team. Can Logan County keep this one close?

Shouldn’t be a close one, the Cougars got their big win last week over Warren East to get a home playoff game and RPI has no bearing for them going forward with Franklin County and PT in the West.
I believe Logan County has the size up front and a couple of talented athletes to keep it a game, but the Spartans passing attack will be too much to overcome over the course of four quarters.
