Villa Madonna 59 Ludlow 56 (34th District Round 1)

? Manic Monday Upset! Final from Holbrook Hall via the St. Henry YouTube livestream.

Ludlow had defeated VMA twice this season: 81-66 and 72-49.

VMA led 38-24 at the half and 50-38 after three, with Ludlow closing to within one with ~2:00 to play.

Ludlow's press wasn't really effective in the first half, and Henry Thole just dominated the game. Different story in the latter half as the Panther press started to grind, forcing turnovers. Jaxson Rice, who was quiet in the first half carried his team on his back in the second.

The Vikings (10-19) advance to the semis vs. Lloyd on Wednesday.

The Panthers end the season with a record of 19-12.

Upset to start it off! By these games I’m seeing tonight, these next few weeks are going to be GREAT!

Key turning points ~

Ludlow's Elijah Perrin, the only player to match up with Thole's length, fouling out late in the fourth.

Big block by VMA's Thole on a deep corner three by Wolfinbarger with nine seconds left that would have tied it.

VMA, a 58% free throw shooting team, were doing themselves no favors throughout the game, until it really, really, really mattered. The Vikings were in the double bonus when Aidan Day (54% FT) started to swish them in, helping to hold on to a shrinking lead.

⚔️ Congrats Vikings!

Evan Dennison is the absolute best, NKY is so lucky to have him up here now.   Great dude, terrific writer, and works incredibly hard to cover as much as possible.
