Region "Power+" Rankings

📈 (2/5/22) Sorted through the latest "Massey Ratings," and ran them through the WOPR, and it compiled this "Region Ranking." 

Why "Power+"? Well, the WOPR version 1.0 was crowd sourced a bit in the "KY Girls Basketball" forum last week. Originally, the ratings of the top eight teams were added together for the "Points" total. The premise was to add weight to the depth of quality teams in each Region. The "+" is also open to becoming better. ++?

It was suggested that a better approach for a "Power" ranking would be limiting the field to the top four - the likeliest candidates from each Region to make it to Rupp. h/t to @Falcon Pride. For now, we're at a compromise of five teams per Region, which might include a darkhorse team.

The WOPR is relieved, it's 40 years old now, and not as quick on it's circuits as it once was. The WOPR's owner-operator purchased it second hand and is a recovering Luddite, so that's a win-win for all concerned.

Cumulative totals are affected by teams not counted in scoring. This would be similar to the sport of Cross Country. Regions with depth have teams that are "pushers." E.g. #54 Cooper, the 6th ranked team in Region 9, is going to raise the total of Region 15, where the Jags would "place" above top ranked #68 Pikeville.

Unlike Cross Country, Regions aren't limited to two pushers - the overall scores aren't complete until the #5 team in the last place region crosses the finish line. "Power +" values a Region's top to bottom depth. 

The Massey Ratings are useful, as they cover every team in Kentucky, including Home Schools. Per Professor Massey, the MR also tracks teams in every state that border the Bluegrass, as well as a smattering of states that Kentucky teams have competed against. I'm estimating 95+% completion accuracy this late in the season. Won - Loss records reflect KY vs. KY intrastate competition.
