9th Region Tournament 1999-2022

Featured Replies

The Dixie stat of not having missed since 2000 got me into a worm-hole last night and I wanted to share what I found in terms of 9th Region Tourney Participants over the last 24 events (1999-2022 inclusive).  Some of what I found wasn't very surprising, some was quite shocking, but all-in-all, it was a solid look at how teams have performed over nearly the last quarter century, and certainly underscores the depth of some districts versus others.  No team has made all 24 tournaments during this span, although a couple were close.

1.  CovCath:  23 appearances (missed in 2009)

2.  Dixie:  22 appearances (missed in 1999 and 2000)

3.  Highlands:  18 appearances

3.  NewCath:  18 appearances

5.  Holmes:  15 appearances (have missed the last 7)

5.  St. Henry:  15 appearances (have made 13 of the last 16)

7.  Conner:  13 appearances (have made 4 in a row, before that, had missed 8 of the previous 10)

8.  Ryle:  10 appearances

8.  Newport:  10 appearances (have made 8 in a row)

10. Cooper:  9 appearances (have made 8 of the last 9)

11.  Boone Co.:  8 appearances (have missed 9 of the last 10)

12.  Holy Cross:  7 appearances (have made 5 of the last 7 after missing 11 in a row)

13.  Lloyd:  6 appearances

13.  Scott:  6 appearances (made 6 in a row between 1999-2004)

15.  Beechwood:  4 appearances (made 2 of the last 4)

15.  Simon Kenton:  4 appearances (made 4 of 5 between 1999 and 2003)

17.  Bellevue:  2 appearances (1999 and 2008)

18.  Ludlow:  1 appearance (2006)

18.  Villa Madonna:  1 appearance (2008)

As I was talking to someone about last night at a game, I can't believe I don't remember the 2008 9th Region Tourney that included Bellevue and Villa Madonna.  I would have thought I'd remember that.

 Both beneficiaries of blind draws in district.   This was a year before St. Henry joined the 34th. This was also the last year before the tournament moved to NKU permanently(minus COVID year). Tourney was at Conner remember it well.

I saw something in @Adrian Woj Burner's outstanding thread about 8th Region size and success thread that made me think of this thread and the 9th Region Tourney participants.  It looked like from his research that the only 8th Region team that hasn't made the 8th Region Tourney, even once (in essentially the same time span I used), is Trimble County.

Got me thinking, which current 9th Region Teams haven't made the 9th Region Tourney even once during the last 24 events.  These appear to be the only 3 current 9th Region teams that have failed to make the Region Tournament since 1999:

*  Covington Latin

*  Dayton

*  Heritage Academy

I know they are long shots, but I hope they can one day get that experience -- as challenging as that would be for each, given several reasons.

Like I said on the review, I wish I had the time to do the same for the 9th but I simply do not. That thread took about 10 hours of research and development to get everything how I wanted it lol.

Your effort in the Eighth is monumental and highly informative, creating some real good banter. I for one appreciate how much time can go into a 5-to-10-minute read. Just real solid, dude. Thank you.
