Highlands 10 Dayton 0 (36th District Tournament)

I normally wouldn't post anything regarding this game but it was such a fun night for these girls.  They truly seem to be having the best time out there playing these last few games.

Yes it was a mercy ruled game, yes Laney Smith scored 5 goals but it wasn't a throw the starters in for the game and crush them and go home type of game.  The game ended up going into the 2nd half for roughly 5 or 6 minutes before the 10th goal was scored.  It was 9-0 at the half.

You had the 1st unit, which also included the 2 non starting normally Seniors (Bianca Hemsath & Bella Moreno) playing the first 20 minutes.  I think the score when they were pulled was maybe 4 or 5 to nothing.  You then had the 2nd unit play for the next 15 min, then the starters came back in for the final 5, to get the score almost to the magic 10 but fell 1 goal short.

The 2nd half the 2nd unit started and almost had the magical 10th goal with a PK that player/fan favorite Paige Barber (JR) took but unfortunately it hit the left post.  A few minutes later Macy Hargis scored from an assist from Molly De Sola to make the game a final.

Some fun little tidbits this game created some nice memories from a few players:

Macy Hargis (Fr), the final goal of the evening was her 1st Varsity goal in her career.

Bella Moreno (Sr), Got an assist and a goal in the evening, BOTH were her 1st in Varsity action for her.

Molly De Sola (Jr), Got an assist in giving Macy her first goal.  This was Molly's 1st in Varsity action point.

Alli Sower (Jr), Got 2 assists during the game.  These were her 1st Varsity assists in her career.

Sarah Jones (So), Played in her 1st Varsity action in her career and it was between the pipes.  Posted a nice "Clean Sheet"!!!

Job well done Birds!!!!

PS.  I know there was a TON of social media traffic related to the Dayton GK's inflated Goal Saves from the game vs NCC on Saturday.  I will say this, she played really really well last night.  I don't know how many saves Dayton is recording that she got but there were plenty!!!  Very impressed!

Come on man.  I like your stuff and you post real things, but Laney Smith scoring 5 goals is just stat stuffing and there just isn't any way about it.  If you have to defend it like you did, it probably is.  Not the worst thing in the world of sports.  Great squad and they can go deep in the state.  Props for her getting all 5 of those goals.  She is a great player.

Reading the OP, based on the minutes played and when they were played by the starters, I don't see how anyone can have an issue with who scored how many goals.
