Yes, God did lie to Pat about those previous predicitions. It's a little know fact that God likes a good practical joke every now and then and Pat has been the butt of more than few. If you doubt that God is a jokester, how else do you explain the dodo bird and the Spice Girls?

 

I can just see 'ol God sitting around having a few beers with St. Peter and saying, "Hey, Pete, I'm bored. Let's call Pat R. and mess with him. What can we tell him this time?"
