Happy 80th birthday to Coach Kenney Shields!

Coach compiled a 766-427 record coaching high school and college basketball in Northern Kentucky during his 39-year career.

Shields started his head coaching career at St. Thomas, then at Highlands High School, where he won 261 games and five Ninth Region championships in 13 seasons.

His success on the high school level led to him becoming the head coach at NKU. He took NKU to the NCAA Division II national championship game in 1996 and 1997 and coached the Norse for 16 seasons, compiling a 306-170 record. He left the program as one of the top Division II teams in the country when he retired in 2004.

So question:  Is there a more decorated NKY Coach in a 13 year span than what Coach Shields did at Highlands???

Love Coach Shields!  He’s an NKY treasure.

Over 10 years and 10 games into ‘21-‘22, Scott Ruthsatz has 289 wins, 5 region titles and 2 state titles.  Not quite 13 years yet, but hopefully, on the way.

Happy 80th Birthday Coach Shields! They'll never be another like you, you're a jolly good fellow that nobody can deny. I have great memories of attending your baseball as basketball clinics as a kid, and learned so much from you because of. I've enjoyed watching your sucesses over the years. Such a treasure you have been for Norhtern Kentucky sports.
