Mustangs roll to 7-0 on the merits of a 14-0 shutout over Class 1A, District 5 rival Nicholas County on Brossart (early) Senior Nigh in Alexandria, as we conclude a four game home stand.

The win gives us a one-up advantage over the Blue Jackets and the Paris Greyhounds in district play.

Tonight's game started out as a pitchers battle, as Brossart could not pick up a first down on our first two possessions, nor could the Blue Jackets on their first offensive set.  After a first down and a 46 yard field goal attempt, the Mustangs took over at the Nicholas County 20-yard line and marched the ball 80 yards for a touchdown, culminated by a 18 yard touchdown run by our quarterback, Jacob Leicht, and when "Dewey" Schwartz split the uprights we led 7-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Our subsequent drive started at our own 15 yard line, but not to worry, Leicht again orchestrated an 85 yard drive which he finished off with a 31 yard run on fourth down, pushing the lead to 14-0, when Schwartz again connected on the PAT    Aurturo Alain Lopez-Dominguez then attempted a field-goal from 60 yards out, which landed just under the crossbar, and the Mustangs took a knee from their own 20 to end the half.

Neither team scored in the second half, despite creditable drives by both teams.  Each team picked up 7 first downs apiece in the second half, but neither could punch it in.  The Blue Jackets attempted a 61 yard field-goal in the third quarter, and this one sailed under the crossbar.  This kid can kick.

With the win the Mustangs improve to a program best tying 7-0 start, and combined with games played in 2020, have now won 8 in succession, and 12 of their last 13.

We travel to Brooksville next Friday night for a district showdown with the upstart Bracken County Polar Bears and a Port Tenderloin sandwich.
