Block-o-Rama!!!

Anyone who likes a game of “lunch” got it tonight, as nothing came easy and big time blocks were happening on both ends of the court, and probably more than I’ve ever seen in a high school game ever.

The Beechwood Tigers travelled to Ft. Thomas to take on the Highlands Bluebirds in quest of the treasured 2nd spot ranking behind the almighty Covington Catholic Colonels, and they came away with a win that was mostly close the whole way.

We saw Beechwood strike first with nice 1st quarter shooting where they netted 4 3’s and ended the period up 19-12

The 2nd quarter belonged to the Bluebirds as Beechwood’s shooting cooled down, and Highland’s battled back from the deficit and took a 2 point lead into halftime 30-28

The 3rd quarter belonged once again to the Beechwood Tigers where they ended the period ahead by 8, their biggest lead of the night 47-39.

The Birds came flying back in an instant at the beginning of the 4th quarter an got the game all knotted up I believe at 49 or somewhere there abouts.

Beechwood’s composer won out in the face of a Birds team that played their guts out to overcome, but just came up short. Game in Beechwood’s favor 67-63, and arguably now the 2nd ranked team in the 9th Region.

Draud ended the night with 26, and Downton had 19 including 4 fabulous dunks,

On the losing end Vinson netted 23 with 5 blocks on what would be for him not his greatest shooting night.

I don’t have the total stats on the blocks, but shots were being swatted in each other's faces the entire game.

It sure was a good old good one in the 9th Region that had everything, and the only thing missing was a crowd.

Sounds like a great game! Not sure I would really rank any team second behind Cov Cath. The entire next four to five teams have beat up on each other. Heck really the next six teams. I love watching the parity of these teams. Any given night any team can win and it really not be an upset.

I agree, it's sorta hard to say, Beechwood recently beat St. Henry, Holy Cross recently beat Beechwood, NewCath turns about and beats Holy Cross last night and so on and son on...it's a bit hard to nail down that 2nd spot.
