1st Region Week 5 Review

Several 1st Region teams are unfortunately on a program pause due to COVID.  Hopefully, everyone will get/stay healthy and games in future weeks will be a go.  Here are my rankings:

1. McCracken Co (11-3) - W 70-57 vs Calloway, W 69-38 at Carlisle, W 63-53 at Henderson

Next wk:  Tues vs Murray, Fri vs Marshall, Sat vs Henderson Co.

A reminder that the three losses that the Mustangs have were against AP #1 Bowling Green, and also two narrow losses against out-of-state teams from Evansville.  Two challenging games this week - Tuesday versus Murray and Friday versus Marshall.

2. Tilghman (7-2) - No games this week or next due to a team pause.

It was unfortunate that we didn't get to see Tornado at home against McCracken.  Surely that game will be rescheduled as the Tornado could potentially force a coin flip for the 2nd district #1 seed.  It will be a tough win for them to get though.

3. Murray (7-4) - L vs Marshall 57-73, W vs Hickman 81-39, L at Greenwood 63-72

Next wk:  Tues at McCracken, Thurs vs Carlisle, Fri at Calloway

A surprising loss for the Tigers at home to the Marshalls (who were missing Harmon).  But the Tigers can make up for it with a big week this week.  Could they possibly spring an upset at the Mustangs on Tuesday?  The district game Friday at Calloway is a huge game too.

4. Graves Co. (8-4) - W at Ballard 71-31, W vs Union Co 74-50

Next wk: Tues vs Carlisle, Fri vs Mayfield

This is one of the hottest teams in the Region right now.  Big game against rival Cardinals on Friday.

5. Marshall Co. (3-5) - W at Murray 73-57

Next wk: Tues vs Mayfield, Fri at McCracken

What a win for the Marshalls this week!  This is an inexperienced team that is getting better, and when Zion Harmon returns this will be one of the most talented teams in the region.

6. Calloway Co. (4-8) - L at Lyon Co. 65-81

Next wk: Tues at Ballard Mem., Fri vs Murray, Sat vs Critteden Co.

Is there a possibility that Calloway, Marshall, and Murray all end up 2-2 in the 4th District???  That would be crazy!  The #1 seed in that district is VERY important!  Can the Lakers beat Murray at home on Friday.  Big game!

7. Mayfield (6-3) - No games played this week.

Next wk: Tues at Marshall, Thurs @ Hickman, Fri at Graves

A couple chances for upsets this week for the Cardinals.  If they get one of those upsets they'll probably move up in the rankings.

8. St. Mary (5-7) - No games played this week

Next wk: Fri at Ballard Mem.

The Vikings are also on a pause and hope to get back at it this week.

9. Carlisle Co. (7-3) - W at Livingston Co. 62-59, L vs McCracken 38-69, W at Ballard Mem. 62-46

Next wk: Tues at Graves, Thur at Murray

The Comets have had some injury issues and when they are healthy they could make some noise in the Regional tourney.

10. Christian Fellowship (11-5) - W vs Dawson Springs 71-58, W at Todd Co. Central 51-42, L at Danville Christian 44-50

Tues vs McClean Co, Fri at CCA, Sat at Livingston Central

14. Ballard Memorial (2-13)

Big win for the Mustangs over Murray last night, 51-37. Defense was phenomenal.

Looks to be a balanced region with several teams with a chance to win it.
