Knox Central 81 Wolfe County 74 (WYMT Mountain Classic Semi-finals)

Featured Replies

And it will be an all 13th Region WYMT Mountain Classic Final.

Certain words come to mind when describing this game; gritty, rough, chaotic, tough, just for starters. This game saw hard nosed play, 2 technicals on Wolfe County in the first half with a player ejection.

Wolfe County jumped out quick with a little lead, but Knox Central charged right back to end the 1st quarter up 21-13. The first T was served WC around the end of the 1st quarter, and the second early in the second quarter along with a crazy amount of first half fouls which contributed to Knox Central pushing their lead to around 10 points, but the feisty Wolves weren’t going to go away easy and kept the game within reach tying it up twice at 38, and again at 40 but without ever taking the lead.

The Panthers of Knox had a little run to end the 3rd period putting them up 6, and then continued to push that lead up to 13 in the 4th period, but again Wolfe got it back to within about 5, and kept the game within question until pretty much around the :45 second mark of the game. Wolfe had to keep fouling down the stretch, but Knox kept cashing in to their ultimate victory.

Just like in the Harlan Co/Hazard game both Knox Central and Wolfe County have contributing strong freshman with Knox having big guy Gavin Chadwell, and Wolfe with Skylar Ritche both inside forces. Sr. Jaz Johnson really for Wolfe Co. was instrumental in keeping them in this game down the stretch by connecting on many clutch shots.

Not familiar with players’ names, I won’t be able to be concrete with other names that were heavy hitters in this game, but there certainly were some as there was an incredible team effort from both teams in this knock down drag out.

The Knox Central Panthers move on to the Finals of the WYMT Mountain Classic to take on the Harlan County Black Bears @ 2:30 on Sunday afternoon.

Wolfe Co overrated and very undisciplined.

It really hurt Wolfe when Wilgus Tolson, their second leading scorer and a key guard and defender, was ejected early in the second quarter. I think Wolfe would have pulled this one out if he had been in for the entire game. They almost did anyway.

Have to disagree. Wolfe got off to a slow start this season but they’re definitely not overrated in the 14th region. No one in the region will take them lightly when the regional tournament starts. Heck, they lost the region championship to Hazard last year in double overtime and have basically the same team back this year.
