Now that the Louisville public schools are starting play, we'll be able to stop speculating and start observing how good the 6th and 7th region teams from Jefferson County (public schools) are....

North Oldham, which hasn't had many more games than the JCPS schools due to COVID cancellations, travels to Louisville on Saturday to take on Butler in what should be an up-and-down affair.

The Mustangs have an impressive offensive arsenal featuring region Player of the Year candidate Dallas Roberts, a sophomore who is in his third year as a starter for North, and who leads the team in scoring.   Roberts showed off a daunting array of moves in his last game against Oldham County, with a powerful move to the basket and an accurate jumper from several feet beyond the arc.

North has plenty of other weapons, including "Rico" Carr-Cole, a dimunitive guard who packs quite a scoring punch, and who tagged 30 points on Jeffersonville (IN) early this year.    Collins transfer Caleb Hawley is showing some nice moves, and should score in double figures most nights.   Ian Higdon's post moves are very smooth for a sophomore - one who is in his second year as a varsity starter.

North is playing a brutal schedule, and that may be part of the issue, but the Mustangs' biggest challenge to date has been slowing other teams' offenses.   Oldham County, Trimble County, and Jeffersonville all scored a boatload of points against North.   Then again, North tends to score pretty quickly, so opposing teams tend to get a lot of possessions.

I don't know much aboub Butler, since they are just now starting their season.   Any thoughts from the Sixth Region folks?

This is a "new look" Butler program.  The Bears have a new coach, Brent Jameson,  who arrives after turning the Scottsburg, IN program around.  The leading returning scorer from last year, Turrell Cleaves, is now at Jeffersontown.  Coach Goodin built a good program over the last several years, so there should be some good talent ready to step up.  Butler plays Manual tonight so that should be a good early test.

I predict it will be a sloppy game as neither team has played much this year.

North Oldham upset last night by Grant County in the Mustangs' first game since January 22nd, 72-68.

Mustangs continue to have difficulties on the defensive end, in their four games, they've allowed 72, 76, 81, and 81 points.

Butler comes into the game 0-1 after just getting in one game in the first week of play for JCPS schools.

This may have the feel of a first week game ....this is February 6th and this will just be the 5th game for North and 2nd for Butler!

Butler vs. North Oldham

6th Region vs. the 8th

The two teams have met twice in the last 5 years, splitting two contests.

Both teams looking to reverse their most recent fortunes; Butler lost their only game so far, 78-71, to Manual.   North has dropped three in a row, including a 72-68 upset loss at the hands of Grant County last night.

Who's the most hungry/motivated??
