Reasons for Optimism

What are some things that have happened for your team in this young season that may not have been foreseen just a few weeks ago that can help improve their fortunes for the rest of the year?

I'll start out with Tilghman and the obvious answer for the Tornado after last night's game. We knew coming in after the 8th grade team's season last year, that this team was loaded with talent and almost at every position. A lot of people thought it was possible that a few of them may see some time during their Freshman year, but there are multiple guys who have made big impacts already and should continue to do so.

None may be greater than Qb Jack James, who made his presence felt in a big way last night as he came in late in the 1st quarter and actually put the ball in the air, a rarity the last several seasons at Tilghman, as it's been all about the run game. He's got a charisma about him and I don't think the bright lights affect him at all.

Now, I do realize it was against a defense that is below average at best, but sometimes you just know when a player has the "It" factor and I believe he fits the bill. I know he'll struggle as he finds his way and learns defenses better, but it gives Tilghman fans hope moving forward over the next years that the days of the one dimensional offense will eventually end.

In his debut last night, Jack was 10/14 for 242 yards and 4 touchdowns. I only put this to show a little perspective as to how bad Tilghman's passing game has been.

In the last 3 seasons, Tilghman has played 37 games. They threw for a total of 2769 yards and 24 touchdowns, which is 74.84 yards per game with an average of .65 touchdowns per game. The biggest majority of those were last season as the two previous seasons Tilghman averaged 44.1 and 40.6 ypg.

Tilghman can give my Mustangs headaches all night, especially if they don’t take care of the ball.

I will be surprised if the Tornado doesn’t break through against Mayfield this season. I am predicting the 14 season streak ends this year!

On an unrelated note, Mississippi State is leading LSU. Funny old world.

I've heard good things about him before Trigg, looking forward to seeing him at War Memorial.
